Why am I not losing any weight?
I have been writing everything down for 10 days now and still have not budged one pounds. I still weigh 181.4 lbs. and am only 5'5". I have been making good changes, moving more, drinking more water, cutting back on portions. Should I try the leek soup? I am getting very discouraged!
Advice please??

Don't give up!
Hello Joanne, I think everyone's real goal IS to lose weight of course. But it's also about living a happier, more sane lifestyle. In the month or so I've come to this most wonderful of communities/group support, I've gleaned that we all are dealing with similar issues. So try what the others have advised. But you will find your own way. For me, I'm at goal weight after being on EVERY regimen uttered or written by the "experts". Then lost the weight counting carbs. It worked, but I'm not a cave-dweller and want to eat and experience everything delicious, just knowing WHEN I'm hungry and when I'm satisfied. That's what I'm working on now. Food is for when the belly is empty, not my heart. But we're all on this road of discovery. Mireille's advice makes life enjoyable. I want to never again weigh,{food portions or myself}count, measure,in short obsess over food and eating. Hang in there and keep us apprised, be kind to yourself. If none of us could ever lose or gain another pound ever again, could we still be okay with ourselves as is? The answer is YESSSSS!! You will lose weight, slowly is okay. Bon soir, Tinasnorklee

Keep doing it...
Hi Joanne, think of it as a lifestyle change. The weight will move eventually if you keep making positive changes. My own experience is that the pounds come off at a glacial pace. I have learned that if I want to see changes I have to keep at it for a long, long time. The nice thing about the FWDGF way is that it's all about changing the way we live and think about food, and just enjoying life. So, even if nothing has moved in 10 days, at least you know that if you make this your way of life, that the scales will show the results eventually. Weight lost slowly is weight lost permanently. Bonne chance!vickie2

Hi Joanne
It's hard to say. Could it be water retention from that time of the month? Perhaps you can try adding some more vegetables and fruits in place of some other things? I am so sorry that you are feeling discouraged...We are all here to support you.Elizabeth G

A different perspective for me
Only not so different for those who follow FWDGF... I was completely STUCK at the same weight for ages and ages, so decided to see a nutritionist. We talked about all the usual suspects - calories, protein, carbs, exercise, etc. About 15 minutes into my second appointment, my nutritionist stopped mid-sentence and said, "I'm so tired of talking about losing weight when everyone is just getting fatter all the time. I want to try something new. What are your main health concerns?" We talked for a while about my priorities: improving my blood pressure, preventing Alzheimer's (the two are closely linked), managing menopause (sooner than later), having more energy. We talked about the nutrients needed to accomplish those goals: a source of potassium and calcium at every meal, an adequate blend of protein and carbohydrates to sustain energy. The weight loss will come, he assured me; don't count calories or points or grams of anything, just concentrate on eating the foods that are healthy for YOU and the rest will follow. It's true; after 2 weeks, my energy level is improved and my jeans already fit better!Ava

liked your words Eliz...
The picture is cute too.... I will add in my energy of support to you. It took me a long, long time to lose the weight. I do think a detox weekend can be incredibly helpful. (It doesn't have to be leek). For me getting nutrition that works for my body really has made all the difference in the world. I'm very physically active I eat a plant based diet...I love green smoothies, juices, lots of fun, crunchy, different salads...with everything from raw cheese, nuts, different veggies...yum...it makes me hungry now. Keep staying connected to us, we will keep listening and caring and loving you no matter how long it takes, no matter how frustrated you get. We will be here for you. JasAva

Ditto
your comments to Elizabeth G Jas!Elizabeth G: I love the idea that you should be eating the foods that make you feel healthy ... to me; this is an absolute no-brainer :-) It is quite tricky though, unless you have access to a nutritionalist or do a lot of research, into which particular foods are indeed best for eat individual persons needs. It is a good learning curve, and it would be great not to rely on counting up fat content, calories, carbs (the list goes on), but just to have a list of fresh fruit / veggies, fish & meat (with the correct level of vitamins & minerals) to consume. Green tea is an example; I've been trying to find out how much you should drink in order to get full benefit. This advice goes wildly from 3-4 cups to 10! I understand that the tea contains quite high caffeine - so 10 cups sounds way too much! I'd say go with your gut instinct ... but then again, I'd rather know for definite! Any ideas anyone?

your body...
I do think it is trial and error and being tuned into your body. Our bodies are so wise, we each know deep down, and we especially know if we are connected to the earth and the plants that we eat. Alas, though, we are human and we live in a crazy techno world so being connected to our natural world, our natural instincts is a process of relearning. I make mistakes all the time...somedays are like this for me: wow--potluck last night with all raw garden food...mexican was the theme (which really resonates with me...jalapenos, onions, garlic...my body loves this. ) Earlier this week it was the opposite...wooooo do I feel bad, what is going on? I didn't have any greens today, I ate too many nuts....I feel dehydrated, grumpy...So I keep getting clearer what my body should eat and what it shouldn't eat. Seasons seem to make it different though too.jas

one other thought
I don't think anyone can tell you what is right for you...Green tea (doesn't work for me--the caffine) Yet it is written about all the time as a great thing for bodies. So you have to tune into your own body (which will change over time, with seasons...)It makes it all one grand adventure.
