When you are sick?

Apart from medicines, what are your favorite tried-and-true remedies for when you are sick and/or fatigued? I have yoga and hot water with lemon in my tool box at the moment.

Natural Cold Prevention

Hi Ladies--just back to the forum after a long time off and this caught my attention. In South America people are more open to natural remedies and prevention. I got into using propolis (a bee product) for prevention. It's not a very pleasant tasting substanec, but it keeps me from getting sick. And when I notice my nose is starting to get sore I use Dr Neel's nasal irrigation system. I haven't had a cold in years.

Remember the garlic tea!!!

1 clove garlic smashed into one cup tea, with lemon juice and honey mixed in. Sit under a blanket on the couch. Inhale the steam from the garlic tea. Sip slowly. Eat the garlic when the tea is gone... if you want to. You will feel better within 1 hour of drinking this tea. My kids didn't believe me until they tried it, and now they ask me to make it for them. :)

When my Polish exchange student was with me she told me that her mother makes her drink garlic and warm milk when she has a cold.... so there must be something to it. Feel better my friend!

Hope you are...

Feeling better soon Jean. Like the others, lots of sleep and fluids, especially hot(spicy)liquids if you can stomach it. Something like spicy Thai broth with ginger,garlic,etc--good for the lungs. Rest up dear one. xo

Depends

If I have a very bad cold, I will eat Viatnamese Pho' soup. For some reason it always makes me feel better. If I have the more serious flu, I just drink lots of water and sleep. All in all, I think sleep is best cure all.

Asian Therapy

Hi Angela, when we are sick with a cold in my family, we all crave Korean kimchi chigae, which is a really hot, spicy kimchi stew. It works miracles. Or if we're looking for something a little more gentle, we do garlic tea. Brew a cup of black tea, put in a clove of finely minced garlic, some fresh lemon juice, and a teaspoon or two of honey. That also works really well for easing cold symptoms. Recently, an exchange student from Poland stayed with us, and she said that her mother makes warm milk and garlic for colds and flu. Those things are all good, but I also agree that plenty of fluids, rest, and sleep, are really important.

Sleep

I agree that sleeping is usually the best thing when sick. I'm also a big fan of honey, lemon, ginger and hot water, whatever the problem. It's good for a cold, and for an upset stomach.
