pretend wine
I don't drink, but there is something beautiful about a glass of red drink in a stem glass. So I mix a natural black current juice from Australia (good for lots of stuff in the body) with sparkling water and stevia...and wa la my pretend wine.coco1960

Looking for Ideas !
Now that we are in the holiday season (mine starts the first of October !). What are some of your favorite wines? Last year I bought a holiday spice wine produced by The Brotherhood Winery (Hudson Valley , New York State). Very nice wine. So I am on the hunt for wines for gifts and for entertaining. xo Cocojrenai67

Dio elies (=Two olive trees) by Kyr Yiannis
It's a syrah/merlot and xinomavro(a greek variety) I totally fell in love with!!! Full bodied, goes very well with all kinds of cheese and meats. Its name comes from the 2 olive trees that mark 2 of the borders of the vineyard where these fabulous grapes are produced. Ah, a love affair this wine!Vintage1944

Went to the Wine Festival outside of Athens a long time ago.Fell in love with a wine called Mavrodaphne.Sometimes, one can find Greek wines in Montreal.Next time I am there I'll look at The SAQ(Societe des Alcools de Quebec)otherwise known as the Jolly Shop among my dear friends.Kali mera koukla mou.OXONaja

Mavrodaphne
means black (=mavro) daphne (the plant, you know). It's a sweet wine that can make you very very drunk... If you find any greek wines opt for red dry ones and come back to me. Polla Filia!!!snorklee

Mmmm..... Greek wines...
I must try them. I've been loyal to French wines for quite a few years, but recently I've been branching out a bit. When I went to Costa Rica, I fell in love with Malbec, which is a lusty, full-bodied red that goes well with almost anything it's paired with, even sushi. :) Recently, I've been dabbling with Portuguese wines. The ones I've tried are fruit forward, light reds which hold their own with many heavier winter dishes. So, now.... I will investigate Greek wine. :) Here in the wilderness of New York State, I hope I can find some.Naja

I could send you a bottle or two...Never done so before, but why not try now? Bisous, mon amie!Naja

My favorite is...
Pinot Grigio from the Veneto Area (nowhere else) for what it reminds me of and, also, some high quality (out of the great variety) white and red greek wines. Did you know that greek wines are of great range, with many brands, and that apart from the marketing, they have nothing to envy when compared to french and italian wines if not better (which is what I think)? I recommend the variety Asyrtiko (let's say by Skouras - they produce the asyrtiko "Santorini") to accompany your fish with. Or Averoff's "Katogi", a full bodied red one (from a variety that comes to us from ancient Greece) for your meats, red pasta dishes and sausages. I hope you are lucky enough to find them somewhere near you. You'll remember me. I'll be posting more on greek wine later. Cheers!frenchy

Cavit
This brand is the best for everything. Their Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir are superb. I have just tried the Merlot and it has great depth and character.ella713

PNW
Living in the Pacific Northwest (PNW) we are very lucky with wine choices. We have quiet a few vineyards in both Washington and Oregon, but I enjoy the McCrea Vineyard Wines. I also like Kingfish but I'm not sure who makes that one.dilaucius

Chocolate Port
I went wine tasting at a couple of wineries the other week, and came across chocolate port. I'm not sure how they managed to combine two of my favourite foods in one item but they did. Apparently it's good served over vanilla ice cream with a spoon.Marilyn

Love this wine...
Georges Duboeuf Moulin a Vent 2003. It's on the inexpensive side, $14.99 - $19.99 and is really, really good. It seems to go with a lot of different foods.Cheers,

Rosé, but....
I absolutely love rosé (Mateus being my favourite one), but then again, I absolutely refuse to have it outside the summer :-) I think rosé and summer are a great couple, and I do not want to separate the two of them! When it comes to white wines I prefer Rieslings and Chardonnays. As for the reds, I haven't found one that I would really like... I'll stick with white and rosé until someone offers me a glass of _really_ terrific red wine ;-)

Red
Try Brunello de Montalcino if you can get it. But watch the price as some is extortionately expensive. We tasted it on a holiday to Tuscany. It is delicious but the prices go from the sublime to the ridiculous. Enjoy, Marilynviolette

Bonjour Cecily.....Louis Jadot -----Oui~~~~
Hi Cecily: \ Before I even read your post I was thinking of Louis Jadot Beaujolais as well. I love it! One of my favorites!!!! It's funny, because living in California we have such awesome wines, but I still favor all wines a la Francais, for some reason..maybe the Francophile in me..and the beautiful labels of course. I really like Bycliquette wines....(sp?)).....all their selections are so very nice, and their label is of course lovely. Their pink Rose is nice. I am partial to Cotes de Provence and Cotes de Rhone. My favorites~Sophie

French Champage v. California Sparkling Wines
Has anyone every tried Veuve Clicquot? It is pricey for me, but I have a special anniversary coming up and I think I might splurge! I usually buy California sparkling wines (not Champagne, for all us French girls). Can anyone tell me how you compare the difference, if you have tried real Champagne? Do you think it is worth the extra money and why?violette

My favorite wine is French wine from Cotes de Provence
I love the pink color (my favorite color) French wine from Cotes de Provence, or Cotes de Rhone. I also love sparking pink champagne.Vintage1944

Veuve Cliquot
It is absolutely delicious and a wonderful accompaniment to a meal.It is worth the splurge. If you are planning to share with one other person a Split will be fine and less costly.I also, enjoy California Sparkling wines. There are some very tasty ones.Personally,I prefer a drier wine, not sweet and Veuve meets that standard.JeanGigi L - Georgine

Veuve
I absolutely LOVE Veuve Cliquot. I bought a bottle to share with one of my best friends last summer. We paired it with pesto shrimp risotto, and it was absolutely heavenly. I definitely recommend it!
