Voila, Mes Amies

So, I have lost all of my pregnancy weight. All 35 lbs of it. I had twins...not an excuse but I did put on a bit more weight than friends with singleton pregnancies. I credit my weight loss with Mireille's thoughts on equilibrium and living a French Woman's lifestyle. I've always wanted to move to France :) But now that my twins are a bit older, 2.5 years old, I find that they are not adventurous with food anymore. I cook great recipes from FWDGF cookbook or I improvise, but unless it is pasta or rice or couscous, they will not eat!! Maybe an occasional green bean or carrot and definitely fruit, but protein is a struggle. I told my daughter that we were eating pink fish (salmon) and that worked for a while. Any suggestions on maintaing equilibrium and not becoming a short order cook? I don't cook anything extra for them, they just go hungry. But I'm not trying to starve them!

This one is a true challenge!

First of all congratulations on your newfound equilibrilium! My husband's favorite quote is: "There are no picky eaters, only picky hungry people". I agree with Jas' idea of keeping it really simple for kids. If I had it to do all over I would NOT have allowed the short order cook mode to kick in. Now I do not. I think the best thing to keep in mind is that with child raising the only constant is change. What works today will not apply tomorrow. I remember when he was young I would exhale thinking I finally got it down, then he would no longer eat the anything he had been eating. Ultimately he did best with variety, just as we all do now. Keep us posted on your progress and remember to nourish yourself first!

Hello balletgirl!

Welcome to this site where you will find support and encouragement always. You are facing the dilemma of most young mothers. No one I know has ever figured out why kids eat as they do and yes, some appear to prefer starving. My kids were good eaters(sorry), but my younger grandkids aged 4 and 7,yikes!! The 7 year old girl likes mainly "white"food, plain pasta, rice, noodles, cheese(yay protein). The 4 year old boy eats more variety and eats meat in small quantities. What they love and crave one day, they turn their noses up at the next. You are right, don't be a short order cook. Just lead by example eating wonderful wholesome meals. There's a great cookbook called "Deceptively Delicious" by comic Jerry Seinfeld's wife, Jessica. I've tried some of the recipes and really, you can't tell she's sneaked veggies into everyday kid-friendly food. Congratulations on your weight loss goal being met. And with twins you are plenty busy. Bon Appetit!!

Your wisdom

I do think you are wise not to want to become a short order cook and researching this now. I don't have kids so I'm not much help. I do watch and cook for my niece and nephew (now 11 and 14) and they are not good eaters. It is scarey. My friend seems to have success by hiding the veggies in other things...Yogi Bhajan talks about keeping foods simple for children...no spices till after 6, natural sweets--dates, raisens, fruits, whey, If I find more more I'll write.
