Uh-oh, summer clothes

New York has been pretty cold this year, and so I haven't pulled out most of my summer dresses. I knew I'd been a bit lax in my eating habits for the past couple of months, have been under more stress with some family and work issues, but I had a nasty shock when I tried on a few sun dresses this morning. They were too tight to wear and I have a feeling about 5 pounds somehow crept up on me. Granted I had an inkling I was a bit over where I was last year, but I didn't think it was more than a couple of pounds. I think I'm going to try the budwig starting on Sunday and then do a bit of recasting to get myself back on track again. I'm hoping to be back in my favorite dresses again by mid-July. I'm trying to be positive and optimistic that I'll get back on track again quickly.

Summer clothes

Same here Deb. Have they shrunk or have I grown!!!? The latter I think. As you say 'time to get seriously French'. Spin and fitness yoga class tonight so that will help. Then a proper shopping list for tomorrow, look for all the fresh (and in season) fruits and vegetables. Then to sort the daily movement challenge. Only 7 weeks till holiday time!!!

summer clothes...was it a success anna?

I know I'm coming here and posting late to some of the threads...but I hope your work to lose the 5 pounds was a success. I lost my 70 pounds last year, and was so pleased that this summer my new clothes from the previous summer all still fit...that has never, ever in my life happened. I have a mild form of MS, so after I lost weight and saw how much better my body functioned I decided that I will do whatever it takes to stay thin. Some days my legs hurt so bad I don't want to move, but climbing those stairs helps immensely. I just don't like it too much while I do it. It seems that getting back on track with FWDGF isn't a great effort...again it is just small changes that we can live with.

Free shopping's the best! So happy for you that you found a way to live well in spite of the MS. A true champion you are.

Summer recasting

Hi Valerie, yes, it was a success! I just needed to cut back on my offenders (desserts, mainly) and watch my portion sizes in general, and with some favorites like cheese, in particular. A reminder to eat more slowly and really savor small portions. I've been taking walks at lunch most days, too. I'm happy to report that my dresses fit again! (AND, I've been eating with absolute pleasure).

It sounds like you have a really wonderful approach. I'm so glad you've been successful at keeping the weight off, and with improving your MS.

That is awesome...So what will you do with the clothes that are now too big?

Success

I love that we all have success with this French way of life. It kinda makes the diet industry look really bad...and its sad that so many still think that "diets" are the only way to succeed. Their whole lives revolve around that. Why spend your life eating flavorless low-fat diet food when you can eat savory yummy real food, learn to slow down and enjoy it, and still lose weight.

I must admit, there are meal

I must admit, there are meal bars I do truly enjoy. Try the organic "Think Thin" by Think products. It's not really a diet bar despite the name. I also like some of the Kashi bars. That being said...I eat them very sparangly. They (the right ones, not the low quality protein ones) can be a wonderful alternative when the sookie monster hits.

I agree, Think Thin

bars have saved me on many occasions, such as at the ball park or all-day festivals, where I found myself with virtually no healthy choices. They are nutritionally dense, satisfying, and protein-rich enough to be a meal replacement in a pinch. They are not like granola bars or yummy Kashi bars, of which I would scarf down two in a heartbeat. Lorraine

And don't forget when one is on a field trip and must eat on a moving school bus with 45 middle school students! Lifesaver in that case too.

entre les repas

Just a little something that helped me stay on track... Besides keeping your meals well-balanced, if you ever feel like eating something in the middle of the day, stick to really light stuff - fruits and vegetables. Have some cherry tomatoes in the kitchen, they're just as practical to eat as whatever tempting calories that are sitting in your pantry. (Snacking between meals was actually how I gained a few pounds in the first place, but now I've got myself completely balanced.)

I would like to add...

My roommate is also trying to lose a few pounds and she ate her "lunch" right before I did: a non-fat flavored yogurt (loaded with sugar and flavorings) and some sort of protein bar. Blech! I'll take my yummy yogurt and real meals (with real fat) any day! Such a better way of getting back into my summer clothes again.

Maybe you should

start leaving the 'FWDGF' book around the house in strategic places! Maybe she'll read it. Lorraine

I'm hoping she will

But if anything her eating habits have gotten worse in the time we've lived together. I think she considers my eating habits fattening, even though I'm the thinner of the two of us.

Hmmm

That's just cukoo.Dieting is rediculous and sooooo unhealthy. And it never works. In my business, one definition of craziness is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. Not that I haven't beaten my head on that wall for a long time.Stay French!Jean

Agreed!

Deprivation never works in the long run, as I think probably all of us on this forum have sound out the hard way. Eating for pleasure, mindfully, is just plain more effective, not to mention a whole lot more pleasant than living on power bars!

Off to a good start today!

I had some toast with butter and a glass of goats milk for breakfast. I'm about to make lunch and it will be a salad with some smoked duck, and a piece of fruit. Tonight, I'm going out with friends but I'm determined to just enjoy myself and eat moderately and deliciously! How are you doing today, Kara?

Party tonight

The recasting will have to wait as going to a party tonight. Will try to avoid the really naughty things, hopefully there will be plenty of salad in the buffet. Will have to decide what to wear first. Bound to be black and white.
