Congrats!!
My Heat won tonight too!!! We shall see what happens on Thursday though because tonight they were at home and it was a very physical game as most of them have been, but there were three flagrant fouls and two of them were on the Heat. They can review those and then choose to fine or suspend the players. I know that one of the IDIOT players will be suspended probably AND fined because he committed the foul and then winked!! Really? What the HECK were you thinking?? ay yay yay!! LOL That particular player hasn't been much of a factor so it wouldn't be much of a deal but the other one has and it's going to be interesting if they suspend him, then I would THINK they would have to suspend the other one who hit Wade so hard he got a cut over his eye but again - it's a physical game and a physical series so hopefully they will just suspend the one player which I totally agree should be suspended or at least fined. It was just a stupid move on his part. Sorry I was rambling there - who do they play? Has the other side been decided yet? Good luck :)Kimberly

My nieces...
I wanted to let you know that I spent the day with my two lovely nieces. They have come over from Georgia, spending time between my mom and I this week. My nephew is here as well but he is about to be driving and has been spending all of his time with my daddy (Pop to them) working on getting a car. Today my nieces have come to my house. The oldest is Katherine. She was very interested in my chickens, which suprised me. She used to keep to herself in her room and play video games. I told her all about getting them for fresh eggs. Maybe I possibly have sparked an interest in that. I told her they may have babies and maybe she could have some when they do. My other niece is Elizabeth. I think she will be 14 in June. She had gone through an akward stage, but when she arrived this time she had a new haircut. I told her she looked very French. She has blossomed in her style as well. She is luck because she has very long elegant legs and finally she is getting the confidence. I am trying to spark her interest in France. We have cooked together before and last year when I had some French language learning software, she was very interested except I had to sell all the books and dvds I had after I got divorced because I needed the money. Well she told me today that she has signed up to take French next year in her 9th grade. I said how wonderful that is. I reminded her that if she loved it, when she went to college she could do a semester in France. She seemed very keen on that. I am so proud of both of the girls and my nephew, Andrew. Andrew and Elizabeth were both born in Harrogate, UK. Maybe they were born with a bit of adventure in them. I call them "my kids" as I don't have any of my own.Vintage1944

Sounds like a GREAT day!!
What a wonderful story of your day and how you can now see the influence you have made in their lives :) My daughter still remembers some of the things that my sister did when she was young, so these will be memories that will stay with your nieces for years to come! Maybe if she decides to do a semester in France you will be able to go visit her!kit

Sunny and hot
It will be hotter this afternoon. But for the moment I have the windows open and beautiful breezes blowing through the house.Too hot to garden, except to water and maybe as the sunsets a spot of weeding.I have the radio on and glorious classical piano music is pouring out of it.It is Victoria Day here. We,quaintly, celebrate Queen Victoria's birthday. It gives us an extra day off,so that's a treat.Having a peaceful to myself day.Take care, lovelies.oxoKATHYH

During my 'work' break ...
Doing a spot of Charleston in the kitchen (gently, with no knee twists!) It's good, clean fun ladies! Music courtesty of a V&A Art Deco CD purchased from the National Trust in Devon last year. Everyone in the building is out: the CD is on maximum volume (though I'm wishing it was a scratchy old gramophone playing) :-)Vintage1944

My teams winning!!
I know you all aren't very much into sports but I spent the afternoon watching my baseball team and basketball team win and it was WONDERFUL! Especially after the dismal game my basketball team had the other day!! On another note, has anyone ever tried coconut oil for their face? I have been using my usual creams but I guess my hormones are wreaking havoc on my skin because it seems no matter what I do to cleanse my face, it feels dry and no matter what I do to moisturize, after about an hour or so, it starts to feel dry. I have heard a lot about olive oil going directly on the skin but not coconut oil but since I have coconut trees in my back yard, I thought I'd try some already made stuff and see how it goes and then if my skin likes it, I can try to make it myself! For FREE :) How cool is that??kit

Congrats on your teams!
It's great to watch a winning game. Here in LA,not so much although the Kings(hockey)still hanging in the playoffs. But we've never gone all-the-way! Hope your daughter is feeling better,H.Pylori IS nasty but treatable. You may be interested in looking online at some sites dealing with naturally fermented foods and their probiotic benefits(pickles, sauerkraut, kimchi, etc). Holistic Kid is one site. You are both in my prayers for a speedy recovery. We all practice Mireille's golden rule on this site which is why it is always such a pleasure to enjoy. Anyone who doesn't won't find much to offer here. Hugs, Tinamiamoki

Thanks!
Kit - sorry about your basketball teams. I was hoping that the Lakers would be able to pull it out tonight but I think that OKC is too tough. I was hoping that someone would be able to tire them out a little bit, providing we get that far! Yes they were talking about the Staple Center and how busy it was going to be over the weekend. They estimated 250,000 people going through there and over 100,000 beers being sold! yikes! I will look at that site. As for the fermented foods, she wouldn't be allowed to have them because of the acid content. She isn't even allowed to have tomatoes - HER FAVORITE because of the acid. No citrus either, no pizza, no spaghetti sauce, it's awful but it's only for another two weeks. She asked me tonight if she can have a buffet of carbs when she is finished. Too cute.kit

Oh got 'cha...
I forgot about the acid food no-no's,sorry. Maybe in the future. She is too cute...a buffet of carbs, yum! Yeah, the Lakers folded, good luck with your series:) By the way, since your daughter can eat yogurt, some people take those giant "horse" pills on a spoonful of something palatable, like yogurt, applesauce, pudding to help the whole thing go down easily. Hope the 2 weeks fly by!!coco1960

To Miamoki - Coconut Oil
Good Morning...I read your post about using coconut oil and yes ...it is suppose to be very good for your skin. I've read about it in several health and beauty books , Doctor Oz has given his approval and you could always do a web search about it. I thought about trying it this past winter but was using olive oil...please keep us posted if you try coconut oil and congrats on your team winning !Vintage1944

Oh and Jean
I LOVE hockey - I am AMAZED at how they are able to skate around on those skates like it's another pair of shoes but my team there - of course - Florida - what do you expect? They went out in the second round of the playoffs!!! I am still learning all the rules because I didn't grow up with it but I love it! Amazing - the coconut oil I put on my face has TOTALLY soaked in now! Hmm guess my skin was dry huh? LOLVintage1944

Also to tell the truth...
I got a little "put off" by some of the recent comments from the new person - I think her name is Jenny? As an American who is trying her BEST not to be an "ugly American" I was really kind of insulted. I know she apologized eventually but I just found it really insulting. We are all here I thought to support each other and not judge. Sorry just telling it like it is :)Marilyn

Hey Miamoki
Don't be put off as we all support each other here from our various parts of the world. Nothing is allowed to hurt one of us. We are all different and that's how it should be. It would be a very boring world if we were all French, or English or whatever. Vive la difference!!Vintage1944

No apology needed
But please don't let the comments of one keep you away. You are part of us.OXOAva

Lovely to see you back!
I have to admit I was a tad ruffled when I first read Jenny's post as it seemed rather personal (in pointing the finger), yet we are sited in every corner of the globe: many of us have spent time in France and those who haven't plan to go or dream of going :-)This site isn't supposed to be like Vicky Archer's; which, whilst a nice enough site in itself, is a portfolio of images (something we can't do directly here) with the input of one person (Vicky!) Yes, she allows comments, but to get into the true spirit of 'conversation' (French related or otherwise), this site does that hands down.
As you know Jenny apologised, because I'm sure had she read more of the blog first, she wouldn't have felt the need to make the comments. Everyone is welcome here (bar those blatantly advertising sites we have absolutely no interest in!)
I hope your daughter gets well soon.

Yes I've been kind of MIA
My daughter had to have an endoscopy last week and we found out she has a bacteria called H pylori. It's an AWFUL thing - she has to take antibiotics for a MONTH - and TWO different ones in case the one doesn't work. She is fine now - poor thing - taking all these pills! Plus the doctor put her on a diet - no bread, no pasta, no rice, no potatoes which is really tough. Thank GOODNESS she likes veggies :)Kimberly

I am sorry to hear of your daughter. At least you have an answer and it is something that is doable. I hope she will be feeling better in no time. Glad to see you back. We've missed you. *Kimberly*miamoki

Kimberly
Thanks for your post. I have missed being here. Yes it is doable, I'm just glad it was finally diagnosed. She had issues with her stomach for years and they just kept getting worse. I tell you though, when we went for the procedure there was a six year old little girl having the same procedure. It was SO SAD. She was a "failure to thrive" case. She was six years old but the size of a four year old and she wasn't growing because of her stomach issues. She got so sick from the anesthesia. Poor thing. DD did fine and it really makes you count your blessings when you see something like that.Vintage1944

Oh Linda
I am sorry for your daughter's illness. That evil bacteria causes ulcers and the treatment is quite successful but unpleasant. She will be at the top of my Prayer Candle tonight..How long does she have to be on that awful diet? Please give her a hug from me.OXOmiamoki
POSTED: Mon, 05/21/2012 - 11:31am
Jean
Thanks for your prayers and hugs. Yes it is an evil bacteria. Apparently it's very hard to get rid of as well, which is why they have you take two different types of antibiotics, in case it is resistant to one type. It also can lead to stomach cancer if it goes untreated so I'm glad they figured it out. She had been having issues with her stomach for years. I thought it was stress from school but that was only part of it. The diet is only for another two weeks thank goodness! I know she can't WAIT to have a nice warm piece of baguette fresh from the oven!!
