Have you seen this?
I hope this isn't redundant, but I've just come across this great youtube video on 25 ways to tie a scarf. Check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LYAEz777AU CarolElizabeth G

Is it possible to have too many scarves?
Of course not! And every year I seem to feel the desperate need to purchase yet ANOTHER one in fall colors. Today's purchase was a lovely mohair open weave in olive green, teal, gray and white windowpane plaid. A slight step away from my usual rust-and-mustard, but won't it be beautiful with a rust or eggshell colored blouse? This was snatched up for only $12.99 at T.J. Maxx; the brand is Guillaume de Mons Paris. I fell in love with it in this order: fantastic colors, perfect width, lightweight but warm, irresistible in every way.bren67

Hello to you all
I am absolutely amazed reading about your love for scarves and I request all who care to help me learn something about them. I come from India where a lot of scarves are made - from cotton, wool, cashmere, silk etc.I go mad looking at the prices of the famous scarf brands you possess. Could someone tell me what to look for in a scarf? What is it that makes you pay hundreds of dollars or Euros for a small piece of fabric. Thanks for your help.

Welcome Mandy
That is a good question. What I look for is colour, pattern and a fabric that feels good to the touch.Yes,some of these scarves are insanely expensive. Some people actually have that kind of disposable income, not I.I go to Consignment shops or eBay.The Hermes scarf that I received for my birthday, was the effort of 3 people close to me who clubbed together and won the bidding on eBay.Otherwise,I tend not to be brand focused. If you can buy your scarves from India,so much the better. It is about the look for less,in my world. Also,I have three, that a young Designer I know, makes from the ends of her fabrics, when a dress or suit is finished .They are quite original, beautifully made and cost next to nothing. And even then ,I wait for her sales.LOL.There's my long winded answer.Sorry.Please post again and tell us more about you and your life. Are you still in India?Welcome to this wonderful Community.JeanVintage1944

All of Them!
I love scarves, and wear them often, whether around my neck, as a belt, or looped around the handles of my bag. I prefer silk scarves, and have picked up tons at charity shops in the U.K. as well as some here in the U.S. I have a few patterns of the Hermes that I am keeping my eye out for, and one day hopefully they'll be mine! Fur Idea!!!
I wanted to put a "fur scarf" on my Christmas list. What a splurge! But in the Elegant book this week I found an even better idea for me. I inherited a "shaped stole" fur, which I don't wear. (I have a fur wrap from my wedding I prefer.) Because the fur is nice and it is a family piece, I wanted to keep it. So...in the Elegant book she said to have shaped stoles re-made into other items. My plan? Have it made into a beautiful fur scarf! I look forward to both the warmth and remembering family at the same time.Vintage1944

THISTLES at www.lovethistles.com
What a great question. I find myself in a scarf pretty much everyday; a statement scarf is an outfit must-have. I'm always on the look-out for wardrobe staples from new brands. Liberty' s are a great place to find new scarf brands and designers, online as well as in their scarf room. I recently came across luxury lifestyle brand THISTLES and in particular, their fashion scarves. The scarf is their signature product and their lightweight wispy Scottish cashmere and their Italian silk is all second to none, worth every penny. They always have a vast range of colourways with their main fashion scarves being beautifully lightweight and therefore fabulous for the height of summer and perfect for layering when it gets a little cooler. Distinctive modern style with a fresh feminine feel. The flagship store is in Stamford, England, which I've never been to, but it looks amazing on their site. I shop online at www.lovethistles.commcormier

Scarves
I LOVE scarves! I have been wearing them since the 60's, hence I have tons of them. I worked at Bloomingdale's where I learned how to tie them in many ways; later, I worked at Talbot's, where scarves are always in style and they have great choices. I have to admit that my favorites are the ones I inherited from my late aunt - two gorgeous Liberty of London paisley scarves. They are also as horribly expensive as Hermes, but having one in a fabulous pattern can do wonders for your wardrobe! A worthwhile investment that can be handed down to a daughter or niece!Vintage1944

Hermes are beautiful...
...but horribly expensive! I've bought some simply gorgeous ones from charity shops...the last one being a large vintage Italian silk one for £1.75. Once on - it looks as lovely as a £300 Hermes scarf! If I wear it with my signature Hermes belt - who's to know it wasn't bought in the Nice or Paris store at the same time? The colours work perfectly together!Charlotte

Emilio Pucci!! Though they tend to be on the expensive side sob, sob. Um...where do I buy them? The department store- how unexciting, I know. lol. I love the designs and blend of colours on Pucci scarves. I wear them around my neck and sometimes I tie a small one around my wrist and wear it as a statement "bracelet".Celeste

Hi ladies, I am new to the community but have really enjoyed reading your informative posts. I adore scarves and wear one most days. My favourite brand is Lily and Lionel. They make limited edition scarves in luxury fabrics and are often seen in Vogue,Harpers Bazaar etc. They are super chic, pricey but not hideously so - a definate investment for scarfoholics. I also love picking up individual pieces in flea markets etc. I wear sarong/pareos as scarves in summer. Cannot live without them.Vintage1944

Hello Celeste

Hi Celeste!
I love sarongs and pareos, too. I wish I could find one with a matching gauzy top with long sleeves and a tie at the waist. I can see it in my mind, but not in stores. I'm thinking beach-wear in February! Too much snow does weird things to me.Marilyn

Welcome Celeste
You have joined a scarf loving group.Cecily I am as bad I've been trying on white linen trousers ready for June. In the end I got so fed up of taking off the winter layers that I abandoned the idea. I'll leave it a little longer and hope by recasting I have shed a few pounds. No hope before the end of this month with weekends away and celebrations!!!! I still think 50% but don't always succeed!!

Helpful link
This link has a couple of new twists on scarf wearing: http://geekthreads.blogspot.com/2010/01/scarf-tying-tutorial.html. I just love this woman's unique sense of style. As for my favorite brands: I don't have any. I'm always on the lookout for good quality ones which aren't made of silk. Not an easy task!Vintage1944

I love my favorite scarves
I love my favorite scarves because I bought them in my favorite city Paris!! Where else? I have one I bought in Montmarte and 2 I got in a subway stop, a beautiful nice silk one from the Picasso Museum in Paris and one from Bon Marche--my favorite Parisian department store!!!. My other favorites are soft and luscious cashmere, one in an oatmeal color from Ann Taylor, and one lavender cashmere from TJ Maax I think. Also I have another I got at a local flea market and I wear it because the colors are incredible. I always always have a scarf on. I like the comfort it feels for my neck, it's like a security blanket for me...maybe I'm weird or something, but I feel protected with a scarf on. Cozy and sheltered. No matter what the weather. I especially like to buy a new one when I travel somewhere, even just a new town or little local jaunt. When I wear it, I think, "oh yes, I remember buying this from such and such"....it gives me good memories and makes me happy. My mother recently gave me a few that were my grandmothers. This is especially special, and I even remember her wearing one particular light blue silk one. I think I'll wear this one today!!! What a great thread. Would love to hear some others' views on scarves. P.S. I wish I knew different ways to wear them.... doesn't Mirelle have a video somewhere re this? I also love when I dress for the day, deciding which scarf to put on......violette

My 2 scarf additions
While traveling this weekend, I bought 2 new scarves to add to my collection. One grape cashmere, soooo soft and one cream with gold and brown print I bought in a neat bookstore, made in Pakistan I think. I get very happy wearing them because I remember a vacation I had and where I went and what i did. When I wear them, I will think of this weekend. Anyway, I love scarves!!!!All my scarves have memories to go with them.Marilyn

I'm the same
I have two baskets full of scarves. Everywhere I go I buy one. I love the feel of a cosy scarf in winter or the coolness of a silky one in the summer. They finish an outfit and can add a dash of colour to a dark ensemble. As well as scarves I have 3 beautiful big wraps which can act as a jacket. They are particularly useful travelling in the car when a coat can be too bulky and you just want to curl into something warm. There is a video on the website about wearing scarves and I have a useful little booklet produced by 'TieRack' that shows different ideas. Just play about with them until you ind ways that look elegant. Enjoy. Marilyn

I absolutely adore scarves as
I absolutely adore scarves as well and agree with Violette about the security of them. I am constantly wearing turtleneck sweaters with scarves. I've collected so many that my darling husband took our old wall-mounted quilt rack and hung it over my long dresser so now all of my scarves can hang beautifully and be on disply all the same. I love it!
