Hello everybody!!!!

How's everybody doin??!! I'm new here, I need to get myself on track...I've struggled with weight my entire life...and I'm sick and tired of it. I need to lose 30-35 lbs, and this time for good. A couple of yrs ago I followed the Mireille lifestyle, and it worked, IT REALLY DID, and I lost everything, plus I was satisfied and content. It was the only thing that ever worked for me. But then, I honestly don't know what happened, I got sidetracked and lost my way, I guess. I certainly wasn't deprived, I really ate welll, and was active. Was it stress? What happened? I don't know, I can't remember. All I know, is that I let go. Sometimes I wonder if it's work, stress, the crazy routine in life. I'm just so tired these days, and I'm only 31, that can't be right, can it? No excuse either way...The success I'm speaking of today is my new and permanent beginning which started yesterday. I made a vow never to look back, to change my ways, my health, and to enjoy every moment. I'm going to do this, and things will change for the better. Good luck to everyone! We can do it!

Hi Anita

Welcome to our wonderful community.I am glad you joined us.Many of us,including me,have been down that road more than once.We understand the struggle and frustration.I am beginning to think that it is the "diet mentality"we have here in this part of the world. It is insidious..As much as we recognize the absolute ,healthy sense of Mireille's lifestyle,we get pulled back in to that way of thinking and behaving. The key concept and word here is lifestyle.Diet is to be avoided at all costs.Good luck to you and we are with you. Hi Jean!!!!!!!

:o) Thanks for the kind words and support Jean, I honestly needed that. I agree with you 100%. Diet is a bad word. It shouldn't have to be that way. We were meant to be happy and not suffer through deprivation. So ridiculous. I'm italian of origin, and I was always pushed to eat more and more AND more til busting, til feeling sick actually. This was not healthy. Being raised and conditioned to such a glutton frame of mind I think is what led me to struggle my whole life. I never knew how to eat to be honest. Quantity over quality which is suprising coming from an italian born and raised family. But my grandparents lived through the awful time of world war 2 in Italy (like many), with poverty and scarce food, so when they moved to Canada, even though they did quite well later on, and things had changed for the better, I think they still kept this "war" mentality, eat like it's your last meal type of thing despite abundance, and it still remains this way. My parents are like this as well because it was passed on to them. This was always the behavior. I come from a family where they rather go to a cheaper restaurant and eat their fill til their pants burst, but the food is ok, rather than eating less, spend a little more, but you'll never forget the incredible meal you ate and how fresh it was. Know what I mean? I can honestly say, that much has changed for me since I met my husband, he taught me how to enjoy food, take my time, understand it, savor it, and apply it to beautiful things. But it's the quantity that I can never seem to overcome...LOL But this will change! Thanks for your words once again. And it's really nice to meet all of you.

Welcome

Hi. I absolutely relate to your situation. I grew up in a family which is always encouraging you to eat more. I am not Italian, but my mum refers to our mythical Italian grandmother frequently. I grew up not knowing how to eat, but am gradually getting there using the fwdgf methods.

Morning Meneia!!!

You're hilarious, I love the mythical italian grandmother part...lol It's really nice to hear of someone that understands exactly where I'm coming from. My husband and my father-in-law worked at one of the top french restaurants in montreal for many years, and my husband always told me that, eating was like an art, and now I understand what that means. It's very challenging for someone who was never taught properly the first time around. Slowly but surely, I'm getting myself back into it as well. Btw, I just realized what fwdgf means now...lol I was clueless at first, I just figured it out now. Dear Lord! Took a while! All the best to you, chin chin!!! :o)

Ooohh,

Sorry, I asked about lollies...they sound devine. It's popular here to have "candy stations" at weddings. Gorgeous jars with all varieties of jelly beans, sour candies, gum drops, etc with scoopers and little fancy bags to fill. A sweet sugar coma follows shortly after:) :(

Fennel Soup

Sunday, I cooked w fennel for the first time. Fennel Found internet videos to learn how to select, clean, and chop fennel - have been curious about fennel b/c it was a strange looking (to me) but interesting looking vegetable with a wonderful licorice flavored scent. I was so delighted with how easy to make and delicious to eat cold fennel soup for dinner.

I tried Fennel yesterday!

It was my first experience with it, but I was following a recipe for the Sonoma Diet and it called for it. I was surprised with the flavor. I really enjoyed it. The recipe was for a roasted chicken with vegetables. I also had carrots with it. I thought the flavors complemented one another very well.

Work Function

We had a function at work today, with lots of fried food, lollies, wine and birthday cake. I had two canapes, both miniature tart shells with fresh vegetable fillings, and a small piece of cake. C'est tout!

Life Changing

Hello everyone! I'm a college student and I just got a hold of Mireille's French Women for All Seasons recently. I started putting the book in action the moment I finished the book. It was pretty hard at first, but OMG the result's amazing. I feel as light as a feather. The 'drink lots of water' thing really worked, my tummy's flatter than before. I also realized that the foods that I used to eat were...because of bad habit rather than a yummy treat. I love Mireille and I'm so thankful she wrote this book! :)

college

Hey, I'm so glad you've had a wonderful experience! I love reading Mireille's first book, I think it's so honest, I return to it over and over again. It's funny, when reading the book, I realized she was encouraging practices my family has always done. It's not so difficult to apply Mireille's advice in a home setting, but college is a different story entirely. I walk all the time of course, but there's dining hall food, which is sometimes far from pleasurable. I seem to always be tempted by whatever offenders happen to be on the menu. I also derive a lot of pleasure from cooking and miss the ability to do so at school. Did you struggle with this at all? Do you have any tips? Thanks!

Ups and downs

I had a doctor's appointment recently that included a weigh-in and blood pressure check. I've put back on 4 pounds...oh well, I will keep trying to keep portions in check and drink more water. However, my blood pressure has dropped to 101 over 61! Most of my family has had to go on medication for high blood pressure over age 40. I'm over 40 as well, so I'm thrilled!

POSTED: Fri, 07/15/2011 - 9:44am

Fabulous!!

That is so good to hear. The 4 lbs.could be water retention(it has been humid),time of month,or any other number of factors.Well done!!
