Life Changing

Hello everyone! I'm a college student and I just got a hold of Mireille's French Women for All Seasons recently. I started putting the book in action the moment I finished the book. It was pretty hard at first, but OMG the result's amazing. I feel as light as a feather. The 'drink lots of water' thing really worked, my tummy's flatter than before. I also realized that the foods that I used to eat were...because of bad habit rather than a yummy treat. I love Mireille and I'm so thankful she wrote this book! :)

Ups and downs

I had a doctor's appointment recently that included a weigh-in and blood pressure check. I've put back on 4 pounds...oh well, I will keep trying to keep portions in check and drink more water. However, my blood pressure has dropped to 101 over 61! Most of my family has had to go on medication for high blood pressure over age 40. I'm over 40 as well, so I'm thrilled!

Fabulous!!

That is so good to hear. The 4 lbs.could be water retention(it has been humid),time of month,or any other number of factors.Well done!!

I didn't hide the evidence

What you say?Well when I have a meltdown under stress,I usually clean up quickly so "Nobody"knows.Walked into the kitchen this morning and it was all on the counter...bread,butter and almond butter uncovered and the milk still on the counter.BTW the "Nobody"in this scenario is me.Hide the evidence from myself.I was appalled when I saw the mess. This reaches very deep and I have learned a lesson.OXO

i didn't hide the evidence

Be kind to yourself Vintage1944, sometimes the cravings win. But we are the ultimate winners because we can always go back to the French woman's basics. A lifetime of dieting and losing and gaining the same 40 pounds over and over, yuck. Every diet "authority" has the right technique except in our soul, you and all of us know what is right. We've thrown out the rule book and eat wisely and for pleasure. Sometimes I just needs LOTS of almond butter, but mostly I self-nurture. And you can too. I'm new here but nice to share!!

Welcome

Hi Kit
Welcome to the site. We all have had our problems and our cravings sometimes win but at the end of the day we always return to our French ideals. We know that is the best way.

french ideals

hi Marilyn, nice to hear from you. Never blogged before but apparently was waiting for the right place! Thanks for your welcome! I'll definitely be on line on my days not at work. You all are very encouraging. I'm a proud American but when it comes to eating, vive la France! kit;)

self-caring

hi Jean: thx for the kind words. I'm a veteran "dieter", anorexic in high school (didn't even have a name for it way back then), riding the weight loss/gain roller coaster for SO many years, 40 pounds lost and gained back over and over. A couple of years back I found "French Women" and was instantly intrigued but didn't trust myself. Lost the weight low-carbing but honestly, can we live forever without bread??!! Mais non! Now I'm learning to trust myself, don't always do what's right, but I enjoy a small croissant not 3 most times. We who eat to soothe ourselves have been wounded in our lives but we CAN and DO over come sometimes minute by minute. You sound like a sweet soul! You encourage others with your words. So glad I came back to "French..." and glad I found this site (even though terrible at learning to use computer LOL)hugs, Tina aka Kit

Tina aka Kit

Welcome, welcome, welcome.Wonderful to have your wisdom here. How right you are, about being wounded and soothing with food.Perhaps our wounds may never fully heal but we can get through and overcome.Right now I am reading Geneen Roth's book When Food is Love.Oh my it touches a deep place. And you certainly know and understand the pain,as you have lived it.Thank you for your kindness. Please keep posting.OXO Jean

strength in numbers

Hi Jean, don't know if I'd consider myself wise but thank you. From what I've read so far I feel "at home" here. Will have to look into the book you r reading. We are not alone in our struggles it seems. I've had my head down for a long time, feeling alone with my body/food/guilt disconnect with the fact that food sustains us. But so does friendship and knowing others are walking their own paths full of rocks and icy slopes, makes me glad I can extend my hand to pull someone else along, and take theirs when I can't go another step! Thank you all for the warm welcome. Have an excellent weekend! XO Tina

feeling the warm hug!!

Hi Michelle, thank you for the welcome! There aren't many people in my personal life I can relate to on this subject. It seems that we women have a standard to achieve even from our earliest years. I've honestly heard people say of a chubby infant GIRL, gee hope she doesn't stay fat!! I am blessed to have two sisters who are the only people (until now)who "understand". We grew up with well-meaning parents, only mom with us now, who judged us and the world in general by looks. You can never be too thin was their mantra. So 3 sisters with eating disorders, hmmm, do the math. I feel VERY lucky to have been adopted into this extended family!! As the saying goes "we're all in this together". The hardest part of the whole food conundrum for me anyways is "am I full yet?" When I think "French", it helps me know, yes and I can eat again later when I'm really hungry! Be well! XO Tina

Oh Tina

3 sisters with eating and weight problems....that's our story too.My mother meant well, but the outcome not such a good thing. Her generation subscribed to what Wallis Simpson said"You can never be too rich or too thin"and we know what a trouble maker she was.We can overcome this.OXO

Yes "soul sister..."

I honestly remember thinking in high school that maybe, just maybe I could stop eating all together!! Imagine my surprise DECADES later learning there was an eating disorder called anorexia! Never went my 2 sisters route, they thought they'd invented bulimia!! Whoa. Luckily we are all recovered (?recovering) Our little demons still plague us. Mom comments in her "stage whisper" in public whenever the mood strikes about how over weight someone is. Asking her to be kind does not compute. She's frail and nearing 87, can't change, still tugs my blouse down over my rear, despite losing weight. Actually commented recently when I declined an after dinner mint, "you can have one NOW" Yes a generational thing. And yes we can and DO overcome even just for today! Hugs Tina

That sure resonates.....

with me,my dear.My mother is long gone but could certainly say a "helpful"thing or two.It has taken years to understand her perspective and to know she did not wish to hurt me or my sisters.I had a brief flirtation with Anorexia and Bulimia but settled for yo-yo dieting at the Olympic level. We can and will recover. And yes it is for today.OXO Jean

we need to mother ourselves...

Dear Jean, I no longer have the deepest levels of resentment I once harbored against mom. True I never got the sense that I was good enough "as is". She couldn't give what she didn't possess. But I can nurture my soul and be kind to me and others. The kind of sustenance in which we can indulge ad lib. I know too well about yo-yo dieting, once had clothes in 4 different size ranges :( No more...I am okay, so are you and all of us!!xo Tina

Recasting

Can it be I am finally mastering recasting? I want to celebrate that while DH and I were away at a world class hotel to celebrate milestone 20th wedding anniversary I lost a pound on this 2nd honeymoon. I've lost about 20 lbs since applying recasting principles
