My daily menus... please add yours and let's all get inspired!
Hello everybody!
I am new here but have read 3 of Mireille's wonderful books and they have inspired me to have some very beautiful, relaxed, delicious days! I just found this site and wanted to get involved :) I ADORE reading her books and they make me feel... so capable and in control of my own wellbeing. Thankyou, Mireille, for the message you have brought to me.
A little background... I am a petite female, age 29 and am (on the light side of) my perfect weight, so want to maintain that as I'm happy as I am. I am a good home cook and love to make most things from scratch, but due to work pressures and living alone, I have since the beginning of the year become a bit laissez-faire about eating properly... but now I'm determined to keep on cherishing myself 'a la Mireille' and it feels great! I immediately noticed I needed to cut out refined sugar almost entirely (it triggers unwanted, unhealthy desires for sweets in me) and having done so, I now find raisins and honey extremely sweet and truly all I need from time to time- which is a delight to me and feels so freeing :)
The idea of living the 'French' lifestyle for me- aside from having always been a complete francophile!- is to stay healthy, improve my skin, hair and nail health and have plenty of energy for doing my job, which I love. So, I thought I would share my last three days' menus as I have really enjoyed them and hope they may give others ideas and encouragement. Please, do share yours too... I'm always keen for more ideas!
Bear in mind I'm not trying to loose weight, so my menus are designed to keep up my energy and maintain my equilibrium as it is :)

New here!
Hi, Im new here and just became a huge fan of FWDGF book. Is this forum still active? :) I like to read other ppls menus, then I can take some notes. I am just starting to change my eating habits... Im learning to combine proteins, carbs and vegs/fruits. Yday had forB: Home made plain yogurt, strawberries (3), whole wheat slide of bread toasted with 1/2 tbsp of home made jelly, green tea.
L: Lentils (1/2 cup), brown rice with broccoli, vegetals (tomato and green beans). clementine (1) with 2 tbsp of plain hm yogurt.
D: whole wheat slide of bread toasted, poach egg (1) tomate with basil. 1/4 cup All-bran cereal.
I don't like animal protein too much. Fish or chicken 3 times per week is all I can do. Im not fan of it. I do like eggs.

Soup, Soup, Soup!
It's my favorite time of year...lots of soups with lots of veggies! I can make one big pot and it will last me all week...yummy! With some bread and cheese, I'm a happy girl! And it has the added bonus of being inexpensive, too. I'm not a meat fan but I do like some cheese, melted. I use whole milk because the added fat keeps me full longer. Usually breakfast is some kind of bread and a cup of whole milk with a bit of sugar and dark cocoa powder. Fall also brings lots of yummy varieties of apples, which I love, either sliced or cooked with a bit of cinnamon and brown sugar.Vintage1944

My Wednesday Menu
Breakfast I made a vegan "BLT" with Fakin' Bacon Strips, 2 slices of whole grain bread, a Tbsp of vegan mayonaise, 2 slices of some beautiful tomato I found, some spinach leaves, a few slices of avocado and a dash of tomatillo sauce for a little spice.Lunch I have left over "beef" and broccoli stir fry with brown rice (I don't believe in wasting food either).
Dinner It is hot here so I have already planned a nice vegan Ceasar salad with grilled "chicken" and a nice baguette.
Of course I am drinking water with a squirt of lemon for refreshment. With the temperatures we are going to have over the next few days, you have to stay hydrated.
Kisses! Gina

I love this
I'm trying to really do it this time. Breakfast: Greek yogurt, blueberries and pecans, coffee. Lunch: Meslun salad with tomatoes and vidalia onion and 12 year old aged balsamic vinegar, a small roast beef sandwich made on rustic Italian bread and an orange. Le Gouter: A sliced yellow pepper and cucumbers. Dinner: Sliced leftover grilled steak on mesclun greens, tomatoes and onions, sprinkled with balsamic vinegar, leftover roasted beets. One glass of lovely Malbec, which goes so well with beef. Dessert: 1/2 cup Greek yogurt and blueberries.I am really trying to incorporate leftovers and use them creatively. Last night, after I grilled the steak, I still had beautiful, glowing coals, so I grilled some zucchini and eggplant. Tonight I am making ratatouille with them, for tomorrow night's supper. Can't wait!

Sounds like you're doing a great job.
With the leftovers and the menu. I am trying to do the same. When I have veggies that I know are going to go bad before I can eat them all, I make them into a soup and freeze it. I had some friends over to my house over the weekend and for some reason they made a whole BOX of pasta! So I had leftover pasta yesterday that I paired with homemade tomato sauce and a little ground turkey and ground beef. I served it with an arugula salad. Tonight I took the rest of the pasta and used it in an alfredo sauce with smoked chicken and broccoli. I served it with a ceasar salad. I still have leftover chicken that I can use for a sandwich for tomorrow's lunch.snorklee

Hi Miamoki :)
Your pasta pairings sound yummy. And your soup idea is a good one. I'm going to try that.I've been really conscious lately of how much food gets wasted, not only in my house, but in America in general. So, I've been trying all kinds of ways to make do and use things up. Last week I made stuffed poblano peppers out of leftover primavera sauce and brown rice and last night I put the last of the roasted beets in the ratatouille that I was making. I've also been keeping a plastic container in the freezer where I put all my odds and ends of vegetables, like the last bits of an onion, or the tops of celery or green parts of leeks. When the container is full, I use everything in there to make a vegetable stock.
Happy cooking!

I have a lot of work to do
I have a lot of work to do with regards to what I eat, based on what I'm reading here. I had slice of toast with butter and cup of black tea w/ one sugar for breakfast. Just had two homemade fish tacos for lunch with a diet pepsi (I'm trying very hard to not drink soda, but I love it! I drink so much water and tea, I need a treat once in a while! Dinner's going to be homemade pulled pork and a salad. Fruit for dessert. Not too bad, but I doubt very much I'm inspiring anyone out there!Marilyn

Don't worry Christine, we all have non inspirational days as far as food goes. In fact more normal days than not. I try to introduce different things into my menus but it is so easy to fall back on old faithfuls.buglexi

Great Idea!
Hi, I'm new here. I first read "French Women Don't Get Fat" last August and have been changing my eating habits since. IIt is a work in progress. I live in Northern California so it is easy to find good food! I now really only shop at the weekly farmer's market aside from staples like flour, sugar, coffee etc. Thought I'd share what I ate today. Breakfast was a piece of Whole-Grain bread toasted with butter and Honey, Strawberries, 8 almonds, and Woman's tea. Lunch was leftover tomato & lentil soup (made it a few days ago had about a half a cup left), blueberries, cherries, and yogurt with a few pistachios. For "le goûter" I had a small browned butter brown sugar cookie and milk. We haven't had dinner yet, but it will be Roasted Chicken and Rosemary Roasted Potatoes, with heirloom lettuce in a salad. For dessert I bought a really excellent spring cheese from Cowgirl Creamery (local and acclaimed cheese company) called St. Pat, it's wrapped in stinging nettle leaves. My movement today was an hour-long hike this morning and a half-hour of a vintage Jane Fonda video (I found it on youtube, so cheesy and fun). Oh and I've had 8 glasses of water.Vintage1944

Saveur French Picnic Menu
I just received my weekly email from Saveur magazine and the focus was on French food. The highlight was a French picnic menu. Being a vegan, I would have to make substitutions, but not that much. Enjoy! http://www.saveur.com/article/Kitchen/Picnic-Basket-Menu-Early-Summer-Fr...Marija

Hi Tori,
What a wonderful idea! My breakfast today - one slice of toasted spelt bread with avocado, tomato and basil with one medium boiled egg and green tea. Lunch- small slice of vegetable lasagne and mixed green salad and a pear (in Australia it is autumn now, so pears are in season). For dinner - mustard and white wine chicken with brown rice and steamed brocollini. Oh, and a glass of white wine. :) It has been a good eating day!Bree

Hi Guys, Some great ideas out
Hi Guys, Some great ideas out there for breakfast and lunch especially. Here's an example of yesterdays meals for me; Mon: Breakfast; 1 free range egg, 1 slice multigrain bread, organic flaxseed spread, ham off the bone and a mandarin. Lunch; ate out at a vegetarian cafe. Had half of my satay tofu burger as it was absolutely mammoth in size, and a small cappuccino. Dinner; Slow cooked beef with sweet potato , carrot and a 1/4 corn on the cob, half a cup of rice. 1 "tic-toc" biscuit and an apple. Shopping was my movement for the day. Oh and i forgot to mention water before every meal. Cheers Bree!Bree

Dinner: 1 Tilapia filet, green pea and mint puree, roasted asparagus and grape tomatoes, and because I'm recasting, no wine, just water. 1 square of dark chocolate for dessert.Marilyn

Wine
Hi Marilyn... wine is something I love to pair with food, and like Mireille says, one glass doesn't hurt. But, with this particular compensation session, it just seems easier to not drink it at dinner, because I've noticed that I linger over dinner and eat more than I should, seconds of this, picking at that, and sipping wine all the while. So, to break that bad habit, I'm doing without for now... of course, in anticipation of fixing this habit and reintroducing wine when I am done.I forget which FWDGF book I was reading, but Mireille told a story of an aunt of hers, who after the excess of holidays, would do a week or two of compensation and not drink wine during that period of time. Now that I've put the wine on hold, I see the wisdom of this during compensation.
I am looking forward to celebrating the end of my compensation with a nice French beaujolais however. :)
Marilyn

Well done
I must admit we do this regularly, take a week Sunday to Friday before we have wine. Then enjoy the Saturday treat more than ever. I am looking forward to a delicious chilled rose this weekend especially if the weather stays as fine as it has been the last few days.Naja

Hi, Deb!
I don't wish to disappoint you, but Beaujolais is supposed to be consumed up until March (even perhaps April) since it's a fresh wine that comes to birth every November. So, if your compensation starts, let's say in May, you might consider another nice red of your likes. Bisous!Naja
POSTED: Wed, 04/20/2011 - 2:58am
Sorry...
I meant if your compensation ends in May...snorklee
POSTED: Wed, 04/20/2011 - 8:37am
Hi Naja
I know about the beaujolais nouveau that comes out every November. I am first in line waiting for it to be sold, and I am sad as May approaches... lol. But there is also beaujolais that is not the nouveau, that can be enjoyed for years. It is a nice, complex red that goes well with many things. I read somewhere that beaujolais is the wine of choice for chefs when they make dinner at home. I agree, it is wonderful.Naja
