Have just pre-ordered the new recipe book out next week. Can't wait to read it, hopefully it will help me release those last few pounds before the holiday. I will take it with me as we are self catering and will need some useful hints as we are away nearly all of June.
I have been looking through the FWDGF Cookbook and have been trying to decide which recipes to try. Does anyone have some favorites? I love MBC and her fish preparation ideas, but want to try some other things.

I love
the scrambled eggs (p22), goats cheese & hazelnut tartines (p38), pear & blue cheese tartines (p42), ratatouille (p80), butternut squash soup (p114), potage d'hiver (p115), pumpkin & apple soup (p117), spaghetti carbonara (p120), Italian style chicken (p148), red berry smoothie (p188), rhubarb smoothie (p190), crepes (filled with nutella or lemon & sugar ... or savoury - mushrooms & cheese etc) (p194). Of course there are many other recipes that I enjoy from the book too! I also love some of the recipes from FWDGF & FWFAS ... one of my favourites is chicken au champagne (p186) followed by poached pears (p153) ... instead of champagne in the chicken sauce, I use Muscat (which is also used in the pears), and I use cream to make the sauce and add lots more shallots! I also use sage instead of the other herbs and I cut the chicken into chunks), basically I've completely changed the recipe, but it's still delicious! I also have a small glass of the wine with the pears as it is a dessert wine after all! I serve the pears with G&B's vanilla ice cream and some melted G&B chocolate on top (it's amazing with the warm juices from the pears and wine!)
Other books I use are: Elizabeth David: French Provincial Kitchen (great soups); Julia Child - mastering the art of french cooking; the Mediterranean diet by Marissa Cloutier; the French market by Joanne Harris & the French Kitchen; le cordon bleu quick & light and finally 4 ingredients christmas (has recipes you can use all year!) by Kim McCosker. I have lots of Italian cook books too as well as baking; cakes; menus and of course there's always Jamie & Delia for when you need something a bit different!

Marilyn~ I actually made the Carmelized chicken with the vegetable pancake for dinner last night and we thought it was delicious. My husband thought the vegetable pancake needed a little ketchup, but he still ate three portions of it! Enjoy.

Mireille's new cookbook
Marilyn~ I'm going to see Mireille at the Wellesley Free Library here in MA tomorrow evening. The bookstore that is sponsoring the event has said that they will have her new book available for purchase there. I am so excited, not only to see her in person, finally, but to have the recipes that helped her to succeed in quite exciting!
Will let you know how the event goes.

Meeting Mireille
Elizabeth & Marilyn~ I am really excited too. I did not get to see her when she released the first three books. I was always working, or the location was not convenient for me to get too.
Tonights event is a presentation, discussion, book-signing and tasting! The Culinary Guild of New England
is supposed to be making some of the recipes from Mireille's new cookbook for us to try. I've already packed my camera and will try to get pictures of everything. I may have to post them on my Facebook page to share with all of you, but I'll certainly let you know how the event goes!

Have fun, HeatherJean!
I'm jealous -- I saw that Mireille will be at several Seattle locations and tried to figure how I might get to see her. But her visit to Seattle is May 10-11, which is a Monday-Tuesday, and it's around a five hour drive (one way) from where I live. I just can't make it work. I look forward to hearing your report!!

Meeting Mireille
To all who asked, the event was fabulous.
It began with Mireille speaking a bit about the French Women Don't Get Fat phenomenum and how she arrived at the point of writing the cookbook. She read two segments from the cookbook and then there was a question and answer session.
They split us up into small groups for those wishing to have their books signed (using colored butterflies to designate which group you were in).
The rest of the attendees were free to sample three of the recipes from the cookbook: 1) celery root soup, 2) chocolate mouse with hazlenuts, 3) a spinach tapenade (I believe)
I purchased the cookbook before the event started and waited my turn for Mireille to sign the book. My 6 year old daughter was in line with me and she spoke briefly to Mireille in French while she signed my book.
I believe she inscribed it "Cookingly yours, Mireille."
I mentioned how much I enjoyed her books and that I would be posting a description of the event here for all of you who could not attend.
I must confess that I have not actually opened the cookbook yet. My mother attended the event with us and she really wanted to look through it immediately. So I allowed her the entire weekend to read it. I'm hoping to get it back tonight as I want to start reading it and experimenting with the recipes too!
Really glad I finally got to hear Mireille speak and to see her in person. For your fashionable ones, Mireille was wearing black ballet flats, slim cut black cigarette pants, a trim fit short black jacket, a necklace and the ring she speaks of in one of her books. She looked the true definition of a Chic French Woman.

Pictures from event
Sorry I forgot to mention that I was unable to take pictures at the event. When I had put my camera in my purse, I neglected to notice that the battery door got broken in the process. Thus, when I held the camera up to take pictures, the battery fell out in my lap. There was no way to hold it in and get the camera to turn on. Maybe someone else who attends on of these events will be more fortunate than I and will post pictures for all to see.

French women choose their own indulgences and compensations. They understand that little things count, both additions and subtractions, and that as an adult everyone is the keeper of her own equilibrium.
