MIREILLE'S MUSINGS: Why Everyone Should Cook

August 12, 2010

Here’s a video recorded recently in my kitchen, talking about the French Women Don’t Get Fat Cookbook and why everyone should go to the kitchen and cook. This basic message of my cookbook is also the message the French media are giving to young mothers (and more and more fathers who are taking to cooking with great pleasure) as more and more prepared food is filling the shelves of supermarkets and TV ads recommend the quick/fast (how enticing for the “fast” 21st century mentality), while stressing that prepared food is much more costly than fresh and, more importantly, educating the French (via nutritionists explaining back labels) about the traps of fast/prepared food…too much salt, not enough real food (one soup had 6% vegetables vs. 100% in homemade soup), lots of chemicals and more, all this known in the U.S. for a few decades. But will the French succumb to fast and quick, too, and turn into obese beings?

FRENCH WOMAN'S MANIFESTO

French women love chocolate, especially the dark, slightly bitter, silky stuff with its nutty aroma.
