MIREILLE'S MUSINGS: French Fashion Summer 2013

Let's talk about shoes

Flip flop (tongs, mostly in plastic), clogs and sneakers are OUT. Never been a fan of them, either because they hurt my fragile feet or I find them utterly ugly (ok, now there are at least some brands making both attractive and comfortable sneakers but at high prices).

I spend my summers in ballerinas (flats) like Repetto and espadrilles (flat and high) bought in Provence but I didn’t realize that the French are gaga for LES SOCQUES that the Japanese have worn forever. Lucky me, last year a friend bought me a gorgeous pair of flats (shown above - you should see the workmanship…incredible) and a fancy pair of socques…in black and white (mind you those white pearls may make me feel like a star if I can learn to walk in them but they are simply gorgeous and made by Machiko Sentou.

So, if Socques are pop and St Trop I may start a trend in my little village!

French women train their taste buds, and those of their young, from an early age.
