MIREILLE’S MUSINGS: Fall fashion in Paris and New YorkFall fashion in Paris and New York. Almost everything from Alaia, Lanvin (the crewneck dress in electric blue with fitted waist and back ruffle is a smashing piece) Balenciaga, Ann Demeulemeester would be a splendid present.
A few newcomers are making their marks and creating wonderful jackets, pants and dresses particularly Christopher Kane and the hugely talented Gareth Pugh from Great Britain (I could have bought the entire small selection of the Bon Marché in Paris, rare for me to like EVERYTHING by one designer, must be his Japanese sense of aesthetic mixed in). Peter Pilotto Austria/Italy is also a big talent and the chic clothes by Veronique Branquinho were more than appealing.
American designers I enjoy this season are Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein (their red clothes are splendid), Ralph Rucci (fantastic coats), Kate Spade, Isabel Toledo, Narciso Rodriguez, Perry Ellis, Anna Sui, Rick Owens and the asian-influenced looks of Zac Posen.
On a more affordable level, I like the Vince collection particularly their tops (leather pants are tricky for lots of women).
Uniqlo's (Japan) style and value are unbeatable. There are opening more stores in the US but the NY ones are already a big hit.
