I don't think detoxes are for me
I tried to do the leek soup weekend but I couldn't make it through a single day. I opted for the french attitude of "there are no dead ends, only detours" and stick at it after 'cheating' (although it's hard to think of having some natural yogurt or a banana as cheating) but in the end leek soup made me feel physically sick and I couldn't stomach either the broth or the leaks any longer and have given up. I was reading through this thread to see if anyone else has had a similar reaction but it seems to be just me. I've always liked leeks so it's not that and I've done some actually quite dangerous diets in my time (the 2468 diet that began on pro-anna websites for example) so it's not the shock of not being on a terribly restrictive diet either. Quite baffled really but looking forward to getting on with everything else FWDGF has to offer.Kimberly

Hi ahhhyl
It's not just you! I amongst others have not managed the leek soup weekend (I had a terrible migraine and fatigue), others similar. I think I managed a day and a half - but it was a real struggle! I love leeks - but soon became sick to death of them. Having changed my eating habits since then, I would try it again (one last chance!)I think if you go back through the posts enough - you will see comments relating to problems others have experienced (unless those posts were removed, as the website administrator had a spring clean a while ago). At the end of the day - you just need to do what's best for you and your body ... experimentation will give you ultimate guidance.vickie2

Leek soup
You could try the Mimosa soup in FWDGF, but I have never actually done a whole weekend either. I would personally rather do the Magical Breakfast Cream for breakfast and only fish or meat and veggies for lunch and dinner for a few days. This is much more enjoyable for me and helps me lose a couple pounds if I get off track.ahhhyl

Restart...
I managed to make it about 10 days, and then the cookies and breads started arriving... I was AWFUL! But this week I have restarted, although not really doing an official Leek Soup Weekend... I am eating Magical Cream Breakfast in the mornings, leek soup for lunch, and a sensible dinner. And feel GREAT! Now on to recasting!snorklee

Ah, the cookies and bread...
I'm so ready to start recasting. All the holiday food does taste wonderful, but in the end, it leaves me feeling sluggish, heavy and tired. I am also restarting this week. This morning, I'm re-reading my FWDGF, to get me going on the right track. And of course... coming here where reading everyone's posts also helps me to get on board. :) Cheers! DebVintage1944

I'm jumping into the recasting pool!
Jump with me, Jean! We can be recasting partners! Today, I reread FWFAS, because I needed winter advice. I also have eaten mainly fruits and veggies today, as a way to reset my palate. I made a simple smoothie out of a leftover fruit tray from New Year's, for breakfast... and a pot of pureed vegetable soup out of all the leftovers from a veggie tray. Resourceful, oui? And sometime this afternoon, the sluggish feeling started to leave me. Voila! It really does work. Now, to continue the process through a five day work stretch. That will be the hard part, I fear.Marilyn

Back on board
I need to get back on board to recast and reread with you all. With a wedding at the end of the month I must compensate for the indulgences of the holiday season while still eating for pleasure. Back to the first book.Vintage1944

Magical Leek Soup 48 hours
I started my "weekend" on Wednesday, enjoying Magical Leek Soup Wednesday and (because I didn't buy enough leeks the first time) on Thursday, enjoyed Mimosa Soup. We actually had the Mimosa Soup for dinner Thursday evening. I made special additions to the soup for the rest of my family... Friday morning was my "dinner" celebration, as I met my girlfriends for breakfast, having an omelet with egg, tomato and spinach, with a side of orange to "break my fast". YUMMY! I did make a mistake with my Mimosa Soup, having misread celeriac for celery, but it was wonderful! And I have enough left over that I have a quick and easy starter for lunch - add chicken or shrimp with a piece of fruit, and I am set! Really excited to begin this new phase of my life. Starting today
As of today, I'm starting my leek soup weekend. I know it's not actually the weekend, but I find it easier to do these things during the week, as my partner and I often go out and visit friends and family on weekends, which can make it quite hard. However, about to put the leeks on, and here we go!Vintage1944

Overall, pretty well. I love leeks (always have), though I did find it quite hard, as I found myself craving things. And not heaps of junk food either, things like a slice of bread with butter, and vegies, though there was a craving for chocolate in there as well. I found it kind of hard to ignore them, though my partner was wonderful, and very supportive, by hiding the bread and chocolate, and being nice enough not to eat any of it in front of me. Thinking on it now, I think it was more of a case of wanting what I couldn't have, than actually wanting these things. However, I successfully came through the weekend, having had nothing but leek soup and water, and feel amazingly refreshed, and having lost 2kgs, and my skin has never felt this good either, so I am definitely working on cutting back on the other drinks I have that are not water... except maybe tea (though I don't have milk with it). So feeling very motivated now!Vintage1944

So I am currently near the end of Day 1, just about to get down to the business of preparing my leek supper. Out of curiosity I decided to weigh myself - I've already lost two pounds! I know it's probably water weight, but I've also been retaining water like crazy lately, so that works out fine for me. I decided to start a blog where I talk about how I incorporate a variety of weight loss techniques to lose weight. One of them is certainly Mireille's mindful eating strategies, so if you're interested the address is distressforthedress.wordpress.com. It's all about how I need to shed at least 15 pounds to fit into a wedding dress I've already ordered.Robbyn

Hi Robyn!
I actually did very well on that weekend and I didn't even complete it (I had somewhere I needed to be on the evening of the 2nd day, so I ended up having my "light dinner" at lunch time). In total, I lost 5 pounds just from that weekend and having never lost so much weight so quickly, I was very scared I was going to put it back on plus some extra weight. Instead, I lost another pound! I'm weighing in again on Sunday, so I'll know how much I lost this week then.Vintage1944

Hi Jean!
The wedding is July 7th 2012 but my first fitting at the end of December - I was told when I bought the dress not to gain more than 5 pounds by the tailor, so I'm very nervous about having gained 15! My goal is to lose 10 pounds in 2 months and maybe another dress size after that (the structure of the dress is such that I can't really gain, but I could lose due to the shape and inner corset that could be tightened down one dress size)For those who are curious, I've now completed 26 hours of the Leek Soup Weekend and have lost 4 pounds of what is probably water weight. I am going to be ducking out of the weekend one meal early because an event I need to go to at 5PM today that completely slipped my mind. So I'll be having my salmon/2 vegetable sides at 2PM instead of 6PM as I originally planned and then I'm going to have a light dinner of vegetable soup when I arrive home.

You are doing well. You will reach your goal.Exciting times ahead for you.By the way, does your name mean you actually have Synaesthesia? It is a fascinating condition.OXOsynaesthetist

I originally became fascinated with synaesthesia when a psych student friend of mine suggested that I may have it (I have extremely strong associations between colors and sound and color and words/letters). I'm an artist/art teacher and I've always wondered if I do "officially" have it (I've never had myself studied by a neurologist or anything) and I've always wondered if that was a factor in my career choice. Plus I find it fascinating in general and one of my favorite artists (Kandinsky) did a lot of work in that vein that I can relate to.Vintage1944

Leek Soup weekend fail
I tried to do the leek soup weekend once when my husband was away b/c he hates leeks. So I bought some organic leeks and prepared them as the recipe suggested. Their aroma was lovely and filled the whole house. I couldnt wait until they were ready but sadly my nose was tricked. I tried drinking the leek soup but to my disappointment it simply wasnt very good. :( It seduced me w/its aroma but let me down with its taste. I really tried but it just didnt do much for me. Is there an alternative to leeks?? I'd love to know if there are.synaesthetist

Hi Everyone!
I'm going to be starting the leek soup weekend tomorrow (we've had a lot of events recently and I'm a freelancer currently, so I finally managed to free up two days!) I'm looking forward to resting, reading, watching Netflix and just vegging (no pun intended, I swear!) Anyway, I've read through all the replies and in preparation for the dreaded headache, I've been cutting out sugar/caffeine for the past few days. I also have some grapes on hand just in case. I know it's a little dead in this thread, but I'll probably pop up again and let you know my progress. I like forums like these because even if no one cares, you still kind of feel like you're held accountable.jas

Yes! alternatives
Jracus, don't despair, there are lots of alternatives. I do "green detoxing" look this up on the web and you'll see lots of ways. I drink fresh greeen juices for a day or weekend, sometimes I do green smoothies...it is wonderful and much easier than the leek detox.
