Help with skincare.....

I was trying to read through the forums to see what I could find about this topic. I have combination skin and also some red tones at my nose and the cheek area around it. I would love to go without makeup but it is not possible. I have noticed as I was reading about embracing he French lifestyle that Mrs. Giuliano recommends as little as possible. What I would like to know is what you all recommend for a combination skin like mine. I also have sensitivities to many products but if I could find something quality I would be willing to buy it. I would like recommendations for how you cleanse your face as well as moisturizer and any makeup recommendations that would not make me look as though I were wearing heavy makeup. I usually wear a base made by cover girl and a pressed powder. I use these to blend the red areas. In general my skin color is what I would call one step aboce fair. I would be willing to try anything even if I have to have it shipped.

It's always changing.

I find that I have to change products every couple of years or so because they seem to quit working. I used Neutrogena bar soap and Oil of Olay moisturizer for years, until my skin started to look kind of, um, cloudy, for lack of a better description. Kind of lifeless, gray. I got samples of the Arbonne line and loved it, but it's very expensive ($375 for the 3 products I wanted). Currently, I'm using Clinique cleanser, exfoliator (2x per week) and the Dramatically Different Moisturizer during the day, and Bio Oil at night. If I'm going to be at home all day (I work at home), I might use Bio Oil in the daytime, too. I've about given up finding a liquid foundation that provides good coverage but doesn't scream, "Heavy Makeup!" Recently, I've been using just Revlon stick concealer under my eyes and to cover up red spots, with a little blush and pressed powder, and I'm very satisfied with that.

Stressed skin

Whether it is a delayed reaction to the wedding or all the celebratory alcohol but my skin has gone beserk. Red blotches, excema you name it. I have toned down my skin care regime to the bare minimum, cleanse with gentle cleansing lotion and eye makeup remover, then massage face and neck with Bio-Oil before bed. This morning a gentle cleanse with a facial wipe, followed by more Bio-Oil and lashings of Vaseline with Aloe Vera for my lips. A no makeup day as I do not intend venturing out of the door!!! Not very French but my poor skin needs a rest!

Don't forget your UV protection

The sun just aggrevates all that - trust me! Even with my mocha colored skin I still use a UV cream on my face because my skin is the dreaded combo (oily and dry!) and sensitive. Yes, pamper your skin! -Gina

UV

Thanks Gina. I am usually very careful. My normal daycream, tinted moisturiser, foundation and primer all have a built in SPF15 or SPF20. My skin really needs the pampering it is getting. I'm trying to drink more water as well.

2 Dermatologist Recommended Inexpensive Products

I've felt overwhelmed by 24,000 anti aging skincare products introduced in US market last year. I tuned into Dr. Mehmet Oz TV show for guidance and learned about 2 very inexpensive skincare products ava neighborhood drugstore. Palmers Cocoa Butter (body) St Ives Timeless Moisturizer (face)

We need so little .....

To make our skin soft and hydrated....drink water instead of soda pop, clean your face before bedtime, use an oil,or cream to soften and exfoliate once a week... I have used St Ives for years to do that, works as good as anything i have found,Bio-Oil is very good,i use that at times myself... I dont spend a lot on all that anymore..i have in the past..but,my best friend is sunscreen, for my face and hands.. My bath in winter months..olive oil.just a few drops and it helps my dry skin so much! Palmers cocoa butter is great! Bren

Another discovery

I found a link to this video in a magazine... either Vogue or Glamour, I don't remember, but it is wonderful! It's called "5 minute facelift" and it is a demonstration on lymphatic massage for your face. I tried it, and it is truly amazing! The difference is very noticeable from before to after. I'll share the link for anyone who would like to check it out. I followed the massage with a slice of lemon applied to my skin, which I've been doing a lot lately... love that lemon! Here's the link...

Deb and this video

Hi Deb and all, I really liked the video you sent. I have been doing lymphatic massage on my face for a little over a year. I like another you tube video I'll try to find and post. This video is really good also. I watched a bunch of video's with Mary Shook. My skin is having some good success with sagging (thanks to dry bushing, lympatic massage and a few other things). I am though still having trouble with dehydrated skin. I just bought a barrier repair cream from Clinique that is supposed to keep skin hydrated. We'll see. Any one else have skin care things that they really NOTICE a difference. Most times the topical stuff seems to make promises, but I've never found one that really delivers. Thanks for any help you can give.

I'm glad you like it. :)

All these years I've been looking for that miracle "skin care system", sometimes spending hundreds of dollars... (remember "Mary Kay" products?) I love that two of the simplest things in the world are better, and so much cheaper, with the best results I've ever had. Now if only a lemon and a massage could make me lose weight, all my problems would be solved. lol.

You're welcome :)

Today, while I was in a store, I walked down the aisle where they sell all the face creams and potions. I smiled because for the first time, I didn't stand there looking at all the products, wishing there was something I could buy to make my skin look better. It already does look better than any product ever made it look! The combination of lemon (now every other day), Oil of Olay for drier days, and this face massage technique, and I can't believe how great my skin finally looks. It only took 55 years to find what works. lol.

Yes!!!

I just watched it and it really seems amazing! I know she says that this Clarins lotion can only be found in Hong Kong, but I'll try to find it in Europe anyway. If I don't find it, I'll try to see if there's an equivalent lotion and will report back in here. Keep on keeping on, Deb! You're a doll!!!

Clinique

Hi Naja, I used a Clinique moisturizing lotion when I tried it. I think anything that gives that "slip" will do. Although, I am intrigued by that lotion from Hong Kong. She said it didn't break her out, and I would like to try it someday. Jean, I must find Bio Oil. I've heard a lot of good things about it.

Jean + Deb mou!

Yes, for the time being I massaged my face with my serum, then with my day cream (both by Galenic) too. Unfortunately, there's no Bio Oil in the Greek market. I've read in here how good it is and the minute these products appear I'll definitely give them a go! Haven't yet researched for that cream. A very quick attempt of mine to find it online was not successful, but I intend to write directly to the firm (have done it before and they even sent me some samples) and ask them about it. We'll see...

Clarins lotion

Hi Naja, here's the link to Clarins' website. The lotion is $70.00 for 1.7 ounce, so I may stay with my Clinique lotion for now, with a promise to treat myself someday with the Clarins.

I've tried the massage with Clinique, Oil of Olay, and just plain water, and I definitely see results, I can only imagine how fantastic it would be to use the Clarins with the technique. Let me know if you try it. I would love to know if it works as well as they say.

Clarins

I live and breathe Clarins. It is the miracle worker on my skin. Yes, it appears expensive, but you don't need to go all out and get EVERYTHING. I use the cleansing milk, the toner with iris and the vital light. My face looks and feels amazing. Plus if you order on line or go to a dept store, they give you tons of samples. I have never needed to buy any of the serums because those are the samples they give me. A little bit goes a very long long way. I have been using the firming serum sample for 2 weeks now and it's only half gone.
The key is the application. Look at the website, they have videos for these and trust me - it sooooooo works. My skin looks practically flawless. Not a wrinkle, not a dry patch. I am 48 years old and NO ONE guesses me beyond my 30s. Also the skin is so healthy and refreshed that I only wear a little powder - no foundation at all. I don't need it. I can focus on making a more dramatic statement with my eye make-up or lip gloss.
As a teenager, I had horrible acne which left dark spots and scars. They are now practically invisible. As I have gotten older when the weather is warm my skin is more combination. In the winter, my forehead and around my nose gets a little dry. Clarins has kept me in balance. I also like that it uses natural botanicals and the products smell wonderful.
Like I said, it can be expensive, but they are always having special combo sales here in the US and on the clarinsusa website. I simply began replacing my regular routine one piece at a time as I ran out.
Gosh! I sound like a clarins commerical. I just love the stuff! - Gina
