HELP IN FEELING PRETTIER IN A JOB I HATE....
I posted this exact same message under another topic, but I thought I'd create a new topic so that it would catch your eyes. Forgive me for repeating the message twice, but I really do need help with this. Here goes.
I work in a school cafeteria helping to prepare the lunches and serving the kids and then washing pots and pans and cleaning up. (It's so embarrassing....I don't tell everyone what I do because I'm embarrassed). I started it years ago when my son was little and in the school. I figured it was something to do and I would get to see him at lunch time. Of course I loved that. And at that time it was just taking the money from the kids as they went thru the line. There was no kitchen at the time. Now there's a new school and a full blown kitchen and my son is not there anymore....he's in his first yeart of high school. It's a private school and very expensive so I have to work. But I hate the job so much. Actually I've been out the past few days, that's why I've been on here so much during the day. Usually my hours are from 9 - 2. Anyways, I have to wear this dumb visor (which I hardly ever wear) with this horrible ugly shirt with the company's name on it, long black stretch pants and sneakers. I tie my hair up in a ponytail way on top of my head and tilt it to the side so it looks kind of cute. (They call me Pebbles...hahaha). And I try to always put make-up on and earrings. Can't wear any other jewelry because I don't want to ruin them. So anyway, when I'm there I don't feel very pretty. I feel disgusting and I hate going there. Any tips on how I can feel better about the way I look there until I get another job? And believe me....I'm looking! Thanks in advance. Luv you girls....Robbyn, xo :)

Hi Robbyn
Everyone does have some great suggestions here! I agree with Jean about maybe taking a personality test to see what may best suit you. The Myers-Briggs test is a good one. I think you can take it online for free.Vintage1944

Robbyn
I have been thinking about your work woes. You should have fun at work.I had a boss who firmly believed that and it was a super place to work. But I digress...my thought is that you must do something that allows you to use your people skills. You have a natural warmth and enthusiasm.Have you considered taking some tests to find out what you'd really like to do?JeanJeanette

One thing I didn't see
One thing I didn't see mentioned...it's also all in your attitude and how you carry yourself. They did a survey once where they took a French woman and an American women, dressed identical and the French woman was unanimously voted as the more attractive one. Why? Because she FELT it and ROCKED whatever it was that she was wearing. So tell yourself..."Yah, I'm wearing a logo t-shirt with leggings. Yah, I'm wearing sneakers. Yah, I have my hair pulled back. But you know what? I'm damn sexy!!!" Lol. Hope that helps!Marilyn

Loving all the answers
Especially the underwear. That is a must as you will feel good knowing you are beautiful underneath. Gentle, natural makeup will make you more self assured, as will a beautiful perfume, it doesn't have to be expensive. Pearly earings will look lovely next to your skin. Lastly a beautiful smile is your best accessory. So smile, Robbyn smile. oxosuzan

HI SWEETIE....
I would luv to do all the things you said. But unfortunately the company I work for stresses that I wear my hair tied up and sneakers. Maintaining posture, red lipstick, perfume and thinking the camera is following me is something I can do! And I like these ideas! Thank you doll! Luv, Robbyn, xo, :)snorklee

I wear scrubs...
and I never feel pretty in them. I'm 54, so being cute in scrubs is an oxymoron. :) I do have one pair of scrubs that gets compliments. It's a black and white patterned top that's somewhat form fitting and shorter, and a pair of black scrub pants. But all the others that I wear are big and boxy, generic looking, functional, scrubs. Blech! I never feel pretty at work. I can't wear jewelry, or perfume, so I am completely utilitarian. I try to make up for that when I go out. Nice outfits, makeup, accessories, perfume... all the attention to detail that I can't do for work. It's so nice to primp and dress when I'm not at work. It makes me more of a girlie girl in my private life. :)Robbyn

I'M 54 TOO HONEY....
I luved what you said about not ever feeling pretty in work but you make up for it when you go out! And that it makes you more of a girlie gir in your private life! It's so true! I went out tonite with friends, and I was all dressed up, and I looked and felt soooo good. (I wrote what I was wearing in another post). I guess, in a way, who cares if I don't look pretty at work. That's just a few hours. What really matters is the rest of my day...and that belongs to me!Robbyn

Scrubs
suck. They do nothing for anyone.I feel for you.Recently, while walking down a hall at the hospital ,I saw a young Nurse in a uniform dress, the appropriate white shoes and hose and a long belted white sweater. She was nicely made uo(not too much)hair up in a chignon and she looked professional and chic.I was amazed.I had forgotten that the classic Nurse's uniform could be so nice.Vintage1944

I am repeating my message.
All work has value. You have value. There is no shame in working. Now to fashion....that uniform will require burning when you get another job.Feh!!Since it is what it is....pretty underwear is the secret to uping your I AM WORTHWHILE AND GORGEOUS quotient.Nobody will know but you and you will have that little ,mysterious smile. In my job ,I have to be careful about jewellry and wear very little. So I have selected pretty, appropriate earrings and nice watches. The makeup is done and I sneak in a spritz of my lovely perfume. Can't wear much as I am a Nurse.I don't wear a uniform. Some of my colleagues wear scrubs.Double feh and yuk!!As I write I am recalling a particularly loathsome job, with loathsome co-workers.I got another job,by doing most of the interview in French.Mais oui and I am not bilingual.Too crazy. It turned out to be the best job I ever had.Now my job is so so.There was a terrible period awhile back.It had a negative impact on my health.Things are better now.So know your own value,my dear. What you do and who you are is very valuable.Oh and on the prettines topic,I wear a nice coat/jacket to work with an attractive scarf and a brooch on the lapel. Also,I am a pusreaholoic and that gets me through.Hope some of this helps.Sorry for being long winded. Thank you for all your tips. They did help. I like the pretty underwear one and no one knowing but me why I have the mysterious smile on! That's the best! Thank you my friend.....and you were not long winded....you were very helpful to me. Thank you for taking the time to write me. You are the best! Luv, Robb, xo, :)Vintage1944

lovely to read
Ladies its nice to see women taking pleasure in how they look no matter what the circumstances. This was nice to read. I must confess I have no restrictions on what I wear to work, but often just throw on a suit as it covers my lumps the best. Sigh....these types of threads encourage me to put a little more effort in. As I am guilty today of running around in sweats...I think I need forums like this to encourage and motivate. So Robbyn thanks for starting this.
