Bombshell Return to Reality/Happy Fourth of July!!!
Bonjour tout le monde;Oui I am back in Ottawa.A dream week in N.Y. with dear friends. We decided to be real tourists and took a tour bus for 2 days. The hop on /off variety and it was a good choice. We saw so much and were easily able to stay at sites we had a particular interest in.First day,we spent time in Greenwich Village.Wandered around in and out of funky shops and took in a Jazz Quartette in Washington Square Park.Got my friend into the Bombshell mode and it was fun to share it in "real time".I told her about all of you and it peaked her interest. We also went to Ground Zero and had my first opportunity to pay my respects.Deeply moving experience for me,I will say.It is a construction site but something else resides there.... a spirit,an energy that has nothing to do with buildings.Have any of you been there ? We went to Southside Seaport and shopped and had dinner under the Brooklyn Bridge.More later....Jean

The 4th
We cancelled our BBQ because we were expecting more rain, so a few of us went to Boston Harbor/Faneuil Hall and had lunch outdoors at The Salty Dog. There was a festival on City Hall Plaza and we just walked, talked and shopped the afternoon away. I finally purchased the Chantecaille Flower Harmonizing Face Cream I've been eyeing since last fall, and received a free DiorShow mascara, bronzer, and lip gloss. It was a lovely way to spend an afternoon. We're rescheduling the party for August when everyone will be in town.jas

Say it isn't so!
Alas, today's our last full day of fun in the islands. Getting ready to head back home, but not before one last trip to the beach tomorrow morning. Sigh... LorraineSt.TropezChic

Happy 4th of July!
I'm giggling as I type: the first people to greet me on this Independence Day are a Canadian and Brit! How many Americans can boast that, eh? ;^) (It's just past 6 am here, so the resident poodle and I are the only ones awake.) Jean what a great way to see the sights of New York. I have not been to Ground Zero yet. I suppose it's like visiting the Berlin Wall and surrounding areas, really required a lot of mental & spiritual preparation on my part. I'm so glad that you had such a nice visit with your friend, and I look forward to hearing more about your NYC adventure! LorraineJSB

Hope your 4th.was fun filled!Did you see any fireworks ?The WTC is like going to the Vietnam Memorial in D.C.It tears at your heart and one feels humbled. But the place that touched me most deeply was the part of Arlington Cemetery were female military are buried.Mostly Nurses and I was moved to tears.JeanSt.TropezChic

I have indeed experienced Arlington, and can truly relate to the feelings that it evoked for you. I feel it's especially meaningful to take children to visit the memorial sites of our nation and of the world to give them an appreciation for history and what others have endured. If they don't comprehend it today, they will some day. I enjoyed a Hawaiian sunset and fireworks over Hilo Bay this evening in the company of family and friends, three of them veterans: a WW2, a Korean War, and a Vietnam vet - incredibly interesting people. Washington D.C.
Did you see the changing of the guards while you were there? I was spellbound and moved to tears by the ceremony. I love D.C. I am so pleased that the two of you had great getaways and are back safe and sound. A belated Happy 4th. I did a BBQ yesterday and had very little computer time. The food was spectacular as were the fireworks.JSB

Glad you all had an enjoyable 4th July. I raised my glass to you all last night. We also try to remind our children of their heritage. My father was WW2 vet he fought in N Africa and luckily lived to tell his grand children stories and memories. OH and I took our daughter to the Commonwealth and US war cemeteries in France many times and to a small village in Limousin called Oradour Sur Glane which has been left just as it was after all the residents were massacred at the end of WW2. She was very touched even at a young age and still remembers it vividly. The Holcaust Memorial at Le Pere Lachaise cememtery in Paris is very moving as well. It is terribley important that these things are never forgotten.JSB

Glad you had a great time in NY with your friends. Those hop on/off buses are great. We used them in Dublin and Barcelona to get the lie of the land and see places we might have missed just walking.JSB

Thanks Marilyn
Did those buses in London and it was wonderful. There is so MUCH to see and do in NYC.One of our stops was Harlem and it has a fascinating history. We passed the very famous Apollo Theatre and there were hundreds of people there ,celebrating Michael Jackson. And we saw John Lennon's home ,The Dakota Apartments.Yoko is still there. Then we stopped in at the Metropolitan Museum. We saw amazing sculptures this time and went to the roof top cafe. The view is magnificent. Then I bougt a silk scarf ,with a painting called Springtime in Central Park on it.Love it.We walked around The Plaza Hotel...gorgeous and expensive. Then had supper at Rockerfeller Center outside. The TOP of the Rock also has fabulous views. And we came out of the Met,there were 4 young men doing some dancing and Street Theatre. It was delightful.Jean
