body lotions - WHEN?

Bonjour madames! When is the best time to cream one's body? when do you do it? after you had a shower, or before you go to bed, or in the mornings, or when? thank you :)

Adore!

I adore all of the BodyWorks Body Butter products. Right now I wear their Morracan Rose Body Butter. It smells of Rose Petals and really hydrates your skin and makes it so soft.

Always after adding Moisture

I think that just after a shower or bath when your skin is the most moist, that's when the lotion locks the moisture in. I live in Minnesota where winters are very dry, and I fall apart if I don't do it this way every day.

Marilyn

I love your wisdom about parts and covering. I am going to look for the Lush Lush that Lorraine mentioned. The bad part about Florida is that in the summer one can still have dry skin but to put something on is almost a dread as when you go outside it is sweat and moisturizer...just too much. I say, is there really a moisturizing bath wash that really does eliminate the need for lotion at least in the summers? I just really do not like being sticky.

For me it also just simply

For me it also just simply feels the best putting it on clean skin. If I took my shower in the morning, by the time the evening comes around, I have all of that day's dirt and grime on me and when I go to rub the lotion in, all that gunky stuff is going to be rubbed into my skin. Not fun! Hope that helps! :-)

Agreeing with you Jeanette

No point putting something nice on grubby skin.

Bonjour! I love "Loves Baby Soft" body lotion

My favorite lately is "Love's Baby Soft Body Lotion" I used this when I was a teenager, and just noticed they have now a nice body wash/body lotion duo. I just love the smell! It's not too perfumey, rather clean and fresh, and not oily at all. And the bottle is super cute, pink and feminine! Yes, Nivea is great too~ It really combats dry skin. My skin is not dry at all, rather oily, so I don't need anything too rich. How fun discussing cosmetics~ Bonjour Ladies~

To tell the truth I don't use

To tell the truth I don't use any commercial lotions - only olive oil. So I have to use it at night, before I go to bed, otherwise I'd smell like an Italian restaurant all day long :D By morning the oiliness and smell are completely gone, so I don't even need to take a shower (although I always do, out of habit). Olive oil is the best there is for skin! And hair and nails, too. And free, as we make our own ;)

olive oil?

Do you ever get to greasy though from the oil and then not want to put on a nighty or clothes for fear of oil staining?

Well... I don't soak in it -

Well... I don't soak in it - a little goes a long way :) But yes, I would not use it if I planned to wear a silk nightie. It's cotton pajamas for me, most of the time, though, so I'm not worried :) I've never noticed any oil stains on them, either - it basically just stays on my skin. Except for my hands and feet - I'm a little more generous with the oil there and wear cotton gloves and socks to bed. And I have to wash them a lot :)

Nya

Have you tried Bio Oil. You could use that in the day time as it has practically no fragrance. Not good for hair but great for the body.

I love the idea of you making your own olive oil. Not possible in our bracing British climate, though I do have a tiny olive tree in a pot, no olives ever appear though!!!!

Britain has its benefits, too!

We have more than 200 olive trees and a LOT of olive oil. But there's a lot of things that are impossible to get where I come from unless I buy them online and pay huge shipping fees, and sometimes even that is not possible.

No, I've never heard of that - will have to try it, though - especially in the winter my skin could use some help :)

Favorite Lotions

I enjoy any lotion with a shea or cocoa butter base, or Aveeno. When it comes to body products, Aveeno is my top choice. It takes care of delicate skin without neasuating perfumes and it doesn't dry out the skin. Now that winter dry air is arriving, my daughter and I will be stocking on shea and cocoa butter lotions.

Favourites

In the summer I use Garnier Summer Body which gives a light summer glow to my pale English skin, in the Winter Dove Body Cream Oil. I use Bio Oil as well on the thin skin on my decollatage. Also have Sanctuary Spray Dry Oil very lovely smell and easily absorbed.

Your avatar has dissapeared again Deborah. A bit like the cheshire cat in Alice in Wonderland, one minute there, the next gone!! Please come back. Marilyn

Oh my gosh Marilyn! I LOVE

Oh my gosh Marilyn! I LOVE the Sanctuary dry body oil spray! We carried it here in the States for a short time, but it's no longer available. The scent is divine! I sooooo want to visit England and actually go to the Sanctuary spa!

Sanctuary

The Sanctuary products are superb. It's nearly time to treat myself to some more of the dry body oil spray as am getting to the end of mine. Hope I can still get it. A trip to the spa would be very special I agree. I wish they had one up here as well as in London.

As far as I know, it's only discontinued here in the States. I saw it on the UK Boots web site, but they don't ship to the US. :-( Oh darn! Will have to plan a trip! lol

Have not seen Garnier Summer Body~~~~

Suppose there are many products abroad that we can't find here in the states---like the Garnier lotion you mentioned. Garnier hair color has always been my favorite though of any~ And I see they now have skin products as well, like their face and eye roller.....never tried these...has anybody? I am very pale as well, (Swedish heritage) and always wear hats and 75 SPF sunscreen and like to be white. I wonder though if a little color would look nice in the summer? HUMMMMMM.......Maybe so....maybe I'll try it this summer just for a change......never too old to try something new~ Isn't that wonderful?

I will

try to resubmit the avatar once again...I like the Cheshire cat...very mysterious. I am going to find some of the products you use. I am noticing a slight difference in the decollatage area now and need to catch it before it reaches the point of no return. Does that make sense?

POSTED: Sat, 01/30/2010 - 2:10pm

frenchy----you're so funny~ the decollatage area....LOL

Is that your pic Frenchy or someone else? I really enjoy seeing everyone's varying display of avatars. Yes, the decollatage. My absolute favorite product for this is Lierac's neck cream. It is the perfect texture and firms and is simply delightful. And has a heavenly smell too~ Definitely when ageing, I need a lifting bra....LOL this area tends to go downward with age....LOL

Marilyn

POSTED: Mon, 08/31/2009 - 7:41am

It does

i think that it is important to look after that area especially as in the summer with lower neck lines nothing looks worse than a crepey decollatage. I always remember trying on a strappy dress with my daughter and her saying, very gentley, 'too much skin, Mum'. She wasn't being cruel but reminding me that while in my head I might feel 20ish my body is 60.

Over here you see a lot of middle aged women trying to keep up with the younger girls. Whilst having good figures they forget that your skin tells your age if you don't look after it. I try to follow the rule that if I have a top with short sleeves it should have a higher neckline or fill in the gap with a necklace or scarf. In fact, except for excercise gear, I always try to 'fill in the gap'. Thank goodness for scarves!!

The Bio Oil is very good and is absorbed easily.

Filling in the gaps.....Love your post Marilyn~

Agree Marilyn.....wearing short sleeves anymore at my age I rarely do anymore....as I don't look quite the same as in my 20's. Yes, thank goodness for scarves~ How wonderful to have a daughter that can help you shop~ I have all sons...but lo and behold they tell me how I look too~LOL

Deborah, I use 'Mirror, Mirror' moisturizer by LUSH, which is made expressly for that purpose.
