Back on Track...aka...Spring Cleaning
IowaGreen said it all. Time for Spring cleaning. Let's all keep in touch with how we're doing with our "zippers" and our joie de vivre! I learn best by reading everyone's ideas and tips. I'm getting serious about this way of life again and Spring is a great time to do it. Today my intention is to venture out for a walk, (since the snow is finally melting), and to track what I eat, with an eye towards recasting. What is everyone else doing to stay on track?

A different kind of balance
Long time since I've logged in! Not near the computer so much but I haven't lost the faith! This spring I have traded in the "zipper test" for maternity panels :) After gaining 30 EXTRA lbs with my first (which I eventually lost after reading FWDGF) I feel really well equipped to not make the same mistake. My zipper test is really the back of my (regular sized) pants...as long as they can still fit with a Bella Band (what a great invention) I'm good to go! I'm 6 months along. To stay on track: Spring foods are so wonderful to me at this time..I'm really turned off to any foods that are too heavy. Having all the fresh things more readily available (and a new house with an outdoor living space in which to eat them!!) is so exciting. Nice to see everyone!Vintage1944

Off track
Oh boy have I gone of track today. After eating healthily but with enjoyment for quite a while I have really gone of track today. It was a day for a theatre trip to see a good old style musical 'Olklahoma' and I fell by the wayside.Breakfast: Toast with butter and jam followed at 10.30 by coffee and chocolate biscuit.
Lunch: Taglietelle Alfredo (with chicken, mushrooms, pesto) topped with parmesan.Glass of wine, expresso.
Chocolates in the theatre and on the coach home.
Home to bacon sandwiches and more chocolates. It was fatal buying the chocolates I know but somehow my willpower went awol. I finished up eating them for eatings sake and regret it. Why did I do it? No idea. A big rethink needed tomorrow. Only 5 weeks to go to our holiday and I do so want to be french in France!!

Hi Marylyn,
I know how you feel, it could happen that you surrender to your "petits demons". When it happens to me, and it does! I think of Mireille's words: "french women may stray but they always come back", and the day after I go back to my "french" way. dont be hard on your self, we are only human and it is a work in progress. Enjoy your holiday in France!!!! where do you go in France, which part? Vive la France! NettaMarilyn

Bon soir Netta
Thank you for your supportive words. Today has not been too bad but I still have some chocolates left!! I have such a sweet tooth all of a sudden.France: We are spending 2 weeks in a house in Acquitaine and then a week in another near Carcassone. Setting off on the 3 June we will have 2 nights in hotels and then 3 nights in hotels coming back to the 'Tunnel sous La Manche' then the worst part, the long haul back the whole length of England as we live in the North. Hopefully I will be able to find internet access at some point and report back to you all. Frenchly yours, Marilyn.

back on track: vacations are too alluring
well I had vacations this spring and I spent them at my parents house. my mum is a chef and she cooks, as a result very good... then we had visitis from abroad. means everyday delicious desserts. and I spent a lot of time with friends from town and they love sweets. you can't believe how hard it was not to fall in behavior pattern. so I started to eat apples. I always eat apples, but this time I totally exaggerate with apples only to withstand. Sometimes my friends forced me to eat more, because they thought my portions are too small. But they didn't realize that I ate 3-course-menu. I still eat healthy but too much and my semester starts monday again. that's why I planed a grapedetox this weekend to acclimate.jas

;) that's what I hope for! I'm good of cheer. But I just read about the Budwig Cream detox and now I can't decide which detox I want to do. I love grapes, but the cream sounds good, too. Any favourites?Kara

I've been having a tough few
I've been having a tough few weeks in the health department and am definitely in need of some "spring cleaning". Been eating way too much as I call it "crap chocolate". Not been eating healthy. Not been getting enough water or exercise. And I definitely have been feeling it. Picking up the stuff to have a Budwig Cream detox, maybe some leeks to make a leek soup for lunch this week. I have to get myself back on track again. We're only human and it doesn't matter how many times we fall off of the bandwagon, what matters is that we get back on again and again. :-)Kara

I hear you!
Oh Jeanette, I hear you about the junk chocolate!! That's something I really sturggle with. Not b/c most of it is exceptionally good but b/c it's so readily available. On the Today Show the other day they made a comment about eating MMs while walking down the hall..I did that that very day!! :) Oh no.Vintage1944

We all
have times when we backslide. The important thing is recognising the fact and getting back on track. We are so lucky to have the encouragement on this forum. To me it's like having a lot of supportive sisters who just happen to live in different countries.tia

Spring
Just thinking about better weather helps me to feel more inspired! I'm with everyone else - trying to make good decisions and getting the most pleasure from my meals. I've been recently reminded about mindful eating and I'm really making a point to make each meal as mindful as possible. Of course, I've tried to do this for ages, but I've recommitted to it lately. So slow eating, placing silverware down between bites, chewing well, and trying to focus on that quiet "enough" voice when it pops up. Also, I've been giving the idea of compensation a lot of thought. Real compensation should result from truly enjoying a special meal, not just a tool to balance out mindless eating. I'm reminded of that today; I mindlessly ate a little too much last night and I'm compensating today, which isn't worth it! I'd rather compensate after a elaborate restaurant meal, not mindless nibbles that I didn't even enjoy anyway. Regardless, here's to moving forward towards warmer weather, and greater pleasure from food.jas

focus
I think focus is most important for me right now. I weighed in this morning I lost another pound, but that isn't much. I do experience my clothes looser than a pound though. I am feeling bit on a plateau and I just need to keep my focus on losing weight and enjoying the wonderful soups and veggies I have been eating.Marilyn

No work
I am definately finding focusing on what I eat much easier now that I do not go to work. The temptation of the office 'tuck' box is not there nor is the permanent temptation of 'birthday cakes', holiday sweets and other sweet things. I have nothing like that in the house. Although I do not know if I have lost weight, it is too early to try the scales, I do feel much more focused and enjoying soups, fish and smaller portions.Elizabeth G

No temptation at home
Marilyn, I rarely have sweets in the house either -- I don't have much success resisting them when I buy or make desserts, so I'm better off with them just not being there. The workplace is too often filled with temptations. I NEVER bring money to work so that I can completely avoid the vending machines; potlucks, lunches, etc. are a different problem but they don't occur very often. The Spring Cleaning conversation has prompted me to start tracking my food again. I tell myself "I don't eat that much" but obviously I'm eating more than I think! I've added something different: I'm trying to note if I'm actually hungry when I eat, and how I feel after eating (full, satisfied, stuffed, still hungry, etc.). I hope this will help me pinpoint trigger events or times of day that I mindlessly eat.
